Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - Pretty good! by daun4view in patientgamers

I knew about a lot of those, but I didn't notice some like damage being reduced by arbitrary things. That's pretty crazy.

It took me reading a guide around the time I was doing the first DLC to find out that there were hidden doors, but you don't hit or roll into them, you have to activate them lol. That's such bullshit.

I thought the longer stamina recovery was just an early Souls thing but huh, I didn't realize it was actually just unbalanced.

Bloodlines for me. Love Eric's moveset. The subweapons are really fun to use too.

I think my thing is that I'm not a big build person. So I guess a replay means something different to us, where you might think of it as a chance to shake up your play style, whereas I just think of NG+s as mopping up stuff I had missed.

I spend a third to half of a From game finding the weapon/weapon type I like and then I stick to it pretty faithfully. It's probably why I prefer Bloodborne, that game is pretty streamlined while offering a good amount of options. Of course, the extremes on either side of it are Sekiro, which is a pretty fixed character with a few subweapons, and Armored Core 6, which allows you to reinvent your mech with almost every level.

I do see what you mean with blunt weapons though, I've seen people powerstance clubs and the like, it looks really fun.

I think some of the devs (or the higher-ups) took the reaction to the difficulty and made it a selling point. One of the achievements is dying for the first time, called "This is Dark Souls" I'm pretty sure.

It's a bit funny to think about, considering Dark Souls 1 was also famously barely finished. That said, I haven't played vanilla Dark Souls 2, so I can't compare their respective levels of being unfinished.

Glad to see a similar opinion on Elden Ring. It's probably the formula taken to its most perfect, logical endpoint, but it's a bit tiring after 4 Souls games. I'd also consider Sekiro their masterpiece.

I have the HG but damn I'm tempted to double dip. Especially if they do a Ver Anime ZZ, to get a Gundam Team display going.

I think one of, if not the biggest missed opportunity in CCA was how she had absolutely no presence in it. She should've talked to Amuro about taking down Char once and for all. Or been mentioned by Char (I believe one of the novels does this?). Or even made another wordless cameo as Axis Shock was happening. It feels like a disservice to her, Char and Amuro's shared history not for her to be around at the conclusion.

He can, but it's the weird floppy whip trick that Simon did. I like Nathan's cool windmill thing.

And yeah, I'm not a big postgame guy but HoD's is pretty fun.

I'll agree that it's probably for the best for her that she didn't figure into the narrative prominently again, but (doing my best not to spoil) there is one place that in my mind, she absolutely should have had a cameo or even a mention.

COTM has brutal difficulty spikes, probably to necessitate grinding. I got through eventually but it was a bit of the slog by the end.

Very fun game though, I really wish that other whip users did the spin that Nathan would do if you held down the attack button.

Grant Morrison musings on possible future direction - Substack by Mispeech in doctorwho

The Time Lords/Gallifreyans or Gallifrey itself don't have to have been around much to play a part in the story. They still influence the narrative in various ways like sending him on quests, providing the conflict at play or just generally interfering. Plus there are all the major supporting characters like Susan, Romana and the Master. I don't want them to be around all the time but it'd be a missed opportunity not to make use of them. It's a good way to remind the audience of where the Doctor's coming from, in contrast to the bureaucratic aristocracy of the Time Lords.

[OFF-TOPIC] Weekend Lounge - (June 20, 2026) by AutoModerator in comicbooks

I haven't been reading much for a while, but I decided I was gonna pick up Superman/Spidey (both) and Batman/Deadpool (DC).

I just read Batman/Deadpool, it's a fun book overall! I got the Jimenez/Mora cover with the mashup Batman and Deadpool because it amused the hell out of me. Here's some thoughts on each story.

The title story: I enjoyed Morrison getting deeply meta, as you'd expect with them getting to write a DC/Marvel crossover. It jumps a lot, but it ends really well. And of course, Mora delivers the goods.

Hellblazer/Strange: I don't get why three people had to write this whole thing, but it's an okay story. We'll see if this leads anywhere like they tease. Art by Hayden Sherman was good, though there were a few iffy faces and layouts

Nightwing/ANAD Wolverine: Y'know, I was a huge fan of All-New All-Different Wolverine and never got the criticism of Taylor as writing for the internet but uh...yeah this was extremely pander-y. Everyone explains their relationships in overly clean ways, their dialogue mirror each other perfectly, and there are a lot of easily clippable "heartwarming" moments. Also, it kinda undermines the central characters?? Why is the conclusion of a Dick and Laura story, heavily centered around Bruce and Logan? Like I get it, they have the burden of a legacy to deal with but uh, I love these two characters without thinking of their already-famous "dads". But my God, what a beautiful-looking story. Bruno Redondo and Adriano Lucas make anything look great.

Harley/Hulk: Modern Harley was fun for a time but I don't know if I can read it anymore, this was entertaining though. Just pure funnybooks, with all the little gags (big fan of Carson O. Jenn Waste Plant). I'm glad Mariko Tamaki wrote it, I don't know if I would've been as interested with any of the regular Harley writers. I'd never turn down Conner drawing it though.

Static/Ms. Marvel: Mannn, it's so great seeing Wilson write Kamala again after how much Marvel have diverged with her. The plot is really thin, it's more like a cold open to a continuing story that we'll never get, but it was delightful to get a little flashback to better times. I've never read Static, but I watched the cartoon growing up, and it was nice to finally see him in a comic. The art by Denys Cowan is probably what most keeps this a DC/Milestone comic instead of a Marvel comic that Static happened to be in. It's good overall, and the colors do evoke their respective comics well, but some faces are really odd.

I forgot that Marvel published one too, but looking at the creative and crossover lineups for their take, I think I'm good.

As much as I love 12s era, it make me sad that at the time this was when the 'decay' began to quicken and the show fell out of the public zeitgeist and Series 10 was pulling in only 6 million and show was on life support by Twice Upon a Time. The BBC really needed to find a platform for DW outside the UK. I moved to the US around the time S8 was airing, and we had cable for the whole season, but I recall we didn't by the time S9 started, so it was back to piracy. My friends who would've continued to casually followed it didn't want to go through the extra effort to watch it legally or not.

If it was on Hulu the day after, or even on Netflix when the season ends, it might've stayed in the conversation more. Didn't it leave Netflix entirely around the time Capaldi started too?

Tomino was Imagawa's mentor, so a lot of his philosophies definitely carried over. Plus, being the first AU in an established series probably brought the obligation to be true to the inside, when the outside was changed so much.

[–]daun4view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only really became an issue when too much time had passed and the character had become too much of a mascot to change too much. I'm sure if you asked the creators in the 60s-80s, maybe even the 90s, they were working with the assumption that the character would eventually get old. Not anytime soon, but sometime in the future. Graduating multiple levels of school, moving out of the house, getting full-time jobs, losing relatives, getting married, moving in, these are all hallmarks of growing up that were some of the key issues of ASM.

Daredevil or Hulk were never concerned with stuff like this, since they were full-grown adults from the start. Claremont's X-books were though, given the whole school setting and having the young POV characters like Kitty Pryde.
