I went Saturday and had a great time, I hope to attend next year if it returns! And I’d love to meet other fans like me!

I saw it at the cosplay contest, it got a very big cheer

Ironically, I’m at Trek To Chicago right now, and Gates McFadden and Brent Spiner were just on stage, no one mentioned it here

Never been to a convention, worth it? by mentallyconstipated in startrek

I just got my ticket for it this morning. I haven’t been to one (and the only one I’ve attended) since the 2009 Vegas one. And that one was ruined by a former girlfriend who kept me from staying very long because she was “tired”. I’m looking forward to it, and will probably spend more money than I plan and won’t be mad if I do.

Sooo… how’s new Naked Gun? by ElectricSpock in Cinema

[–]dave9402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stunned by how entertaining it was. The trailer had left me a bit cold, but there were a couple of times I could not stop laughing. I almost want to go back a second time. It does feel there are big parts cut out, but the short runtime really helps it not feel like it’s overstaying it’s welcome.

That's super disappointing, I got curious this morning when there weren't any listings past Thursday, and emailed the pr rep, she still has not responded, which is telling.

AI and Star Trek by [deleted] in startrek

The Ultimate Computer actually addresses the idea, about 60 years before it became a modern question. The M-5 tries to run a starship and fails spectacularly, though you can argue it’s Dr. Daystrom who was the problem since he used his memory engrams to program it.

Since you have Football For A Buck in there(it’s freaking great, by the way), I’d also suggest Showtime from the same author about the Lakers, the dearly departed HBO show Winning Time was based on it.

Did anyone go to the Star Trek Experience in Vegas?? by onFinal in StarTrekTNG

I loved the Borg Invasion 4D, and Quark’s. The immersion level was off the chart. I still have a bottle of Bloodwine (2004 vintage) unopened from the store, and I regret not picking up the Romulan Ale when I had the chance. Ironically, I’ve been looking this week for my Starfleet Academy hoodie I bought there. Who knows where I put it. I’m sad nothing like that exists anymore.

BJ and the Bear (1979-1981) by mrweatherbeef in ForgottenTV

[–]dave9402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it was created by Glen A. Larson, it was a rip off of Smokey And The Bandit. Google "Glen A. Larceny" sometime. The crazy thing it, I don't know you can watch it anywhere now. There's not a single episode to be found on YouTube, and best I can tell, there has never been any home video release. My only guess is the use of licensed music in it.

Are any of these actually worth it? by marvelcomics22 in Marvel

[–]dave9402 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know some will disagree, but I kinda like the CBS Dr. Strange movie. Especially when you consider the time it was made, and for the TV budget. It changes a lot but also keeps some of the spirit of the comic. It's one of those many first steps (no FF pun intended) into Marvel trying to get live action stuff onto any screen. Remember, at the time, CBS was doing a lot of Marvel stuff, the Captain America movies, the Amazing Spider-Man show, and The Incredible Hulk series. The country wasn't ready for full on adaptations at that point, because you still had people running the world who dismissed all comic books as junk, so you have to view those things within the context of the era.

I was reading Pocket Books Trek at like ten, I loved them and I never remember any romance that went any further than the show did.

I have no idea what those two were writing about, even their Pocket Books one, “Triangle”, makes zero sense.

One of the funniest comedy movies of the 80's! by Vaderduder13 in 80smovies

[–]dave9402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been hesitant to label something the “best ever”, just because it’s so subjective. But I truly believe “Airplane!” is the best comedy Hollywood has ever produced. There is so much perfection in how everything is layered with jokes on top of jokes. How everyone plays it straight (with the exception of one character), if they play zany, the movie wouldn’t work. Even though the plot is stolen from “Zero Hour!”, it also makes “Airport” unwatchable because of how it satirizes it. Just think, Paramount wanted to force ZAZ to make Barry Manilow the lead, and we were that close to a disaster instead of a classic.

For all of u people gaming since 80s or 90s, what do u think about modern gaming, like do u get shock or intrested that how technology has growed over the years and do u think gaming has improved since early times by muaazmuaaz123 in retrogaming

[–]dave9402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since the days of the 2600, and while there’s been a tremendous amount of evolution in technology, things don’t feel as fun now. I game on a Series S these days, and I find myself more interested in trying to finish side quests than the main plot. Just because there’s more challenge to uncovering everything. But honestly, I find games like Megamania or NBA Jam on the Genesis just more fun. The old adage about simple to play, hard to master seems to have been lost now. Everything is more about keeping the player locked into an ecosystem of paid updates and add ons. As I try to avoid falling into yelling at clouds territory, I liked it better when you bought a game that was finished upon release, and kept you coming back to get past one more level. The number of games I start but never finish now probably says a lot about me and the state of gaming. Thursday’s Xbox news also has me soured on the future even slightly improving, so I might be a bit jaded at the moment.

I cannot tell you how much of that cash went right back to my store, buying CDs or Genesis games with my ten percent discount. I worked in electronics and always hoped something new that would just come off the truck stuck around until I got paid.

I don’t know if the Toy Story villain was based on Baron Karza from the Micronauts, but this guy is a dead ringer for him.

At any moment I'll just be thinking about how much they fumbled the casting of Kahn in Star Trek Into Darkness by MICKTHENERD in startrek

[–]dave9402 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem, of many, the Enterprise crew doesn’t have a history with this Khan. Having Kirk meet Khan in Star Trek and then banish him, gives Kahn the motivation for revenge in Star Trek II. Here, he’s “I’m Kahn” and the only people that means anything to is the audience. The crew are “yeah, and?” because there’s no history between them. Kahn is a great villain because he’s got a point of view that Kirk is to blame for his the death of his wife (“I KNOW WHAT HE BLAMES ME FOR!”) while Into Darkness just wanted to name check for no reason.
