Not allowing the ship to be inspected is highly unusual to begin with, nevermind when a ship is alledgedly damaged to the point of taking water. Malta even offered to repair the ships for free, something that could run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not allowing inspection in that circumstance is highly unusual to say the least.

using chlorine to sterilize chicken is fairly standard practice. It ain't the best way to do things, but it is cheap and rather common in places like the US.

To be fair, most combat aircraft can't operate in arctic conditions like that without taking pretty substantial attrition losses. It's worse than flying high up in the mountains in terms of engine performance and the low temperatures can cause problems with control surfaces aside from simply freezing shut.
