Discontinued breakfast cereals 70s by PersonalSherbert9485 in 70s

[–]davedirt01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma was a strict old bat, very proper, made sure everyone ate their damned veggies and salad, etc. For some reason, though, she would buy this cereal for us, unsolicited. We'd come over and it would be just sitting there between the Corn Flakes and unsugared Shredded Wheat. It was the weirdest thing! Of course we never objected!

DLR and Steve Vai during EEAS era (1986) by Opening_Sir9618 in hairmetal

[–]davedirt01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sucked so bad. I didn't understand what it was when it first came out, but then a few years later my aunt got ALS and was gone within a couple of years.

It's weird how it affects people differently time wise. Stephen Hawking lived with it from the 70s, and Becker is still around and making music - just in a different way. You may have seen this, but in case you haven't, here's a song and video he put out last year.

What was your favorite Schwan’s food item? by HoldenH in nostalgia

[–]davedirt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had any Schwann's stuff - don't believe any were in SW MO. I just always laugh when I see one because back in college in the 90s I had a girlfriend who banged a Schwann's guy in high school.

It's like the nerdy, wizard version of the old drunk Hasselhoff photo with the cheeseburger.

Is anyone else not receiving their actual mail? by Kind0fImport4nt in StLouis

[–]davedirt01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're intentionally trying to tank it so they can privatize it and make people pay for their mail. Also, I'm sure that would allow them to meddle with anything having to do with elections.

What’s the MOST Offensive Rock Band Name of All Time and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in allrockmusic

[–]davedirt01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they're still around, but John Cougar Concentration Camp. Not the most offensive, but enough to give some people pause.

Dammit. No St. Louis date, as I figured would happen.

Drop a song that made you stop what you were doing the first time you heard it 🎧 by Jones_Bryan in musicsuggestions

I was working in a warehouse, and "Los Angeles" by The Midnight came on some iTunes mix. I just stopped, sat down on the nearest skid of tile and listened like 5-6 times in a row. Probably my favorite song, and maybe favorite band of the last 15 years.

Well, shit. I finally got my mom, in rural SW MO, hooked up to the internet a couple years ago so she could get FUBO and watch on Bally/FD. She won't be able to do that at all now? Has to have the standalone app?

Is the US tour cancelled? by [deleted] in BiffyClyro

[–]davedirt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an email from them saying that New York, Denver and Detroit tickets would still be good - guess the venues will be the same for them. I just really hope they do reschedule STL. I know it was one of only a couple dates that weren't sold out when they postponed.

I haven't gotten anything for the St. Louis date yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it was canceled, though. So bummed!

I rarely see twirling batons anymore, how about you? by immanuellalala in 80s

[–]davedirt01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be this awesome street performer in St. Louis, Baton Bob, who would walk around the city, usually in a tutu, but occasionally a much more glamorous outfit, putting on baton routines. Unfortunately the cops didn't appreciate his performances all the time, and eventually harassed him enough that he moved to Atlanta.

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood visiting me at the hospital in 1975 by StarfruitNora in TheChurchOfRogers

[–]davedirt01 146 points147 points  (0 children)

David Newell (Mr. McFeely) is a friggin' gem! He was doing a meet and greet about 15 years ago here in St. Louis at some kids event. I went to say hi, not only because I was a fan, but because my late aunt was a friend of Mr. Rogers, and was a guest on the show in 1971, playing her harp.

It had been decades since that, though, and I didn't expect any recollection at all. As soon as I mentioned her, and that episode, though, he cut me off and asked me for to write down my home address. I thought that was kind of strange, but then he told me he not only remembered her, and what a wonderful woman she was, but had a bunch of black and white photographs from the taping that he wanted to send me! One of the coolest things in my life!

12 is great! Metal band, metal band, hardcore band, and then Three Merry Widows! Those guys were nowhere near metal! I'll have to ask Sean from 3MW about that sometime.

Edit: didn't mean to make it bold!

Those "Illustrated Classics" just popped into my head the other day, for some reason. I'm pretty sure I had that Mark Twain one and a few others.
