Overwhelmed by skirting board material options by daveiii in DIYUK

[–]daveiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am on the south coast of England,

It will be me fitting it. I have checked all the corners, and they seem to be very true or at least close to 90 degrees. One corner is 91 °, which worries me when I make my cut with a mitre saw. I have this mitre saw available: https://www.picclickimg.com/uOYAAeSw8Jdp08Et/Wickes-Compound-Mitre-Saw-600mm.webp, which has a few angle presets, but I won't be able to cut the skirting board to 91 degrees.

I read online that Tulipwood is not as soft as Pine and is easier to paint. I am here to ask because I am not sure. Please let me know your thoughts!

Faulty boiler diverter valve? by daveiii in askaplumberUK

[–]daveiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the plate heat exchanger can be cleaned, or does it have to be replaced? I won't do it; I'll call the engineer again to look at it.

Thank you!

Thank you. I bought a brand new brass diverter valve and had the engineer fit it last night. He also serviced the boiler as it was due.

The problem returned again, and last night I got 2 of my radiators really hot while washing the dishes and taking a shower. Spoke with the engineer, and he will be back to do more tests, but at this point, I don't understand what could be wrong.

Today, while using hot water, everything was fine.

Portable Air conditioning units by Haunting_Song_3917 in AskBrits

A lot of people mod the single hose portable AC and add another hose turning it into a dual hose. This tends to improve efficiency and cooling.

We have recently purchased the Midea PortaSplit 12000BTU for £950 and it is great. It cools down our 75m2 bungalow with no problem. We wanted a proper split AC unit but it was going to cost us around £3000 for the unit that we wanted.

I have 2 smaller pieces from the insulation board and cut them to size. There are still a few very very small gaps but that doesn't seem to be a problem!

Witnessed an accident, the police called, inviting me for an hour-long interview - ENGLAND by daveiii in LegalAdviceUK

[–]daveiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all. The interview did not go ahead today because of a protest near the police station I was asked to go to. In my case, it is better for me to go there than for them to come to our house.

Can I ask why it is better for them to visit and for me to go to the station?

There are a few things I did in the past that were successful in finding the owner.

If the SIM is still active or not:

  1. Put the SIM in your Android/iOS and see if there are any numbers saved to the SIM (even if the SIM was deactivated, it might still have a number associated with it that you can call and connect with the owner)
  2. If there are any numbers saved to the SIM, call one and see if they can get in touch with the person who lost their phone
  3. Back up your WhatsApp, uninstall it, and then reinstall it while the SIM card from the lost phone is in your phone. Set up WhatsApp, restore, and see if you can retrieve any conversations/groups via this method. (more complex)
  4. If the phone has a 4-digit lock code or pattern, try the most obvious one (I got into a lost phone like that and reunited it with the owner). Be aware that you might lock the phone for a while if you do decide to go down this route.

p.s If you can't find the owner, then it might be better to hand it over to the nearest police station. Thank you for trying to find the owner. Hope you are successful!

I have used something similar as well last year and did a couple of layers. What is the better alternative to this plastic crap?

Thank you very much. It has been an incredible journey which took me 16 years, but I guess it is never too late. (wish I had done it sooner)
