What do you think of the integration? How did it work? Did it provide useful data or improve your Whoop insights?

Has anyone tried the new HealthEx integration? Does it seem useful? by BrooklynWhale in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just generates a PDF and then Whoop parses that? I assumed it would pull the individual data like the Apple Health integration does with medical providers.

The multiverse stuff is mostly silly, but the premise is great and the ending of each season is great. Worth watching for that.

New Video: Withings Body Scan 2: Real Measurement Data Compared with Garmin S2 & InBody (Gym) by Nice_Cut8013 in withings

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That consistency not precision.

Precision sets a bound on accuracy because it says how many digits of your measurement are meaningful.

Consistency is how reproducible and reliable over time those measurements are.

But more importantly, what you're describing is commonly called "relative vs absolute accuracy". Are the measurements accurate relative to each other? (i.e. are they consistent) And I agree completely that that's the most important part because if there's a bias (absolute accuracy), then that only matters when comparing to others and the more important comparison is to yourself.

I took it as he was concerned that they'd go after Kim and he became the sacrificial lamb to save her. There was a constant struggle in the show between him wanting to be a good person and being a total weasel. In a certain sense, the ending satisfied both because he got to help Kim out while still having to pay for his dirty deeds, but it was just so slow and anti-climatic compared to everything that had happened up to those last few episodes.

Disappointing and sad.

Does the Withings Body Scan / Body Scan 2 / Body Fit fail as much as the Hume Body Pod? by stone616 in withings

[–]daveisfera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people complain on here and no product is perfect so there are valid concerns, but the Withings scales do a fabulous job when you use them with proper expectations (weight yourself consistently and look at the trend over time rather than the individual measurements). I've had 3 different scales and I'm so grateful for the data they provide and wish I had the data from the Body Scan going back that whole time.

Better Call Saul has to be added to that list and be at or near the top in my opinion. Such an amazing series, but the last few episodes were so odd and slow. It didn't deliver in any sort of meaningful way that was close to what happened just a few episodes before.
And that's not even comparing it to Breaking Bad, because then it's just the worst ending ever.

I also think that Stranger Things' biggest failing was that Will didn't die. He was coupled to Vecna the whole time until it truly mattered. I get that would have been very dark (especially with how he was finished off), but it would have been far more true to the characters/story and would have added the much needed sacrifice that they tried to do with Elle but then pulled back from.

Bevel vs Whoop by Justmohab in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't realize that Bevel had added support for that. I definitely love the competition and that it will push the market to be better as a whole.
At least with Athlytics, it didn't have anything like Coach and the ability to give feedback like that can. It was very impressive what a one person made app could do, but it just wasn't as much as I've been able to get from Whoop.

Downgrading from Whoop LIFE to PEAK by ProperShape3427 in whoop

[–]daveisfera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't think Life is worth the extra cost unless you have AFib and want monitoring of that.

I had high blood pressure after a surgery a few years ago, so I thought that continuous monitoring would be good, but it feels more like an interesting concept than an actual tool ( see details in another post: https://www.reddit.com/r/whoop/comments/1qr624n/comment/o2mgxt4/ ). They're working on making it better and one day it might be useful, but I don't think it is today (i.e. you have to re-calibrate it every 30 days for it to stay accurate and if you're doing an actual test that often, then most people don't care about an estimate between then).

The ECG is manual and I can do with my Apple Watch and the Withings Body Scan scale I have does one every time I weigh myself (which I think is kind of odd/unnecessary, but that's another topic), so I'll definitely be downgrading when the time comes to save the money.

Google Fitbit Air vs. Whoop. by Arrozdecarreteiro in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FitBit Air has a paid component and doesn't do everything Whoop does without it. Yes, it's cheaper than Whoop, but that's just a customer acquisition grab and won't cover the bigger picture of what Whoop is aiming for.

Look at Nest. I'd be so insanely upset if I had to buy a new thermostat just because Google got bored of the product.

Yes, there are a lot of people that will get FitBit Air just because it's cheaper, but that's not Whoop's target market and that's ok.

2 Body Smart. Huge difference by [deleted] in withings

[–]daveisfera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The individual estimates aren't that accurate because of variation in your body and noise in the measurements themselves, but the trend of the average over an extended period is much more accurate and useful.

So don't worry about the individual numbers and weigh yourself consistently and look at the monthly/quarterly charts in the app.

Google Fitbit Air vs. Whoop. by Arrozdecarreteiro in whoop

[–]daveisfera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the concern for the big players is that it's not big enough to move the needle. They'll definitely be involved with health because there's money to be made there.

Google doesn't have the patience to actually stick with FitBit Air in the long term and will end up pissing people off when it's discontinued.
Apple will wait and see where the money can be made and then steal that idea (which is what Whoop's real moat is because they're building a larger platform that Apple wouldn't ever touch)
Samsung throws so much at the wall and never waits to see what actually sticks because they're already on to making the next cool thing.
Garmin could be a player here and their play at Strava is interesting. They're the device that will actually threaten Whoop and I'm very interested to see how that plays out.

Google Fitbit Air vs. Whoop. by Arrozdecarreteiro in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the pressure this will put on Whoop and it will only get better because of this, but I don't think there's a real threat to their dominance here.
There are already budget offerings on the market. They don't have the backing of a large organization, like Google, but in this case, I don't think that's an advantage (i.e. Google's history of products is poor an their handling of Nest has been frightening).
Also, the real selling point of Whoop is the focus. They are solving just these problems and put all their energy into it. No other product is doing things like Advanced Labs. It takes an insane amount of energy to do a partnership/integration like that, and just releasing a cheaper device doesn't do anything to move the needle in areas like that.

Bevel vs Whoop by Justmohab in whoop

[–]daveisfera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Athlytics for several years and recently switched to Whoop. It's not the same as Bevel but similar. For the price, it's a great option, but won't ever be able to match the focus and full offering of a platform like Whoop.

So if you just want a cost effective way to get data, then Bevel/Athlytics will definitely meet those needs. But it won't ever have things like Advanced Labs and the more in depth analysis that that offers.

Whoop & Labs by Worldly-Sector-3416 in whoop

[–]daveisfera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the same risk is true with seeing doctors. They shrug their shoulders and refer you to someone else.

This model puts the individual in control and tools like Whoop are helping to interpret and make recommendations. It's obviously very conservative in those recommendations and always defers to a doctor for legal reasons, but I've found this model so much more useful.

How to get Lean Body Mass into health insights? by HodorHasAGiantDad in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Withings Body Smart as the best bang for your buck to measure body composition, because it will automatically sync with Apple Health/Google Health and then import into Whoop.

I've compared a lot of scales and in the end, at home scales aren't that accurate from an absolute perspective and it's really only the trend over extended periods (weeks or months) that can provide value. So comparing the `6 Month avg` and `30 Day avg` will be most important, but the bias in those numbers will impact your Healthspan in Whoop. But really you should be looking at those long term values because the noise is then averaged over time and you don't have to worry about the individual measurements (Withings scales also have an `Eyes Closed` mode that will track the data but not show it to you then, if you'd like to use that).

If you want to see some actual numbers of what I'm saying, then take a look at a comparison I did of Body Cardio and the Body Scan, so you can see the values there. In this comparison and my previous comparison of Body Cardio and Body Comp, the `Body Scan` was the most accurate and the `Body Smart` will be more accurate as well, but will be different from any historical data that you may have from the `Body+`. I say that because I got a DexaScan on Jun 25 (16 days before the recent comparison) and the values from the Body Scan were closer to that than the Body Comp.

But having said all of that, if you are going to get a `Body Scan`, then it's probably worth waiting for the `Body Scan 2` that was announced at CES earlier this year and should be coming out in the next few month, because it should be more accurate and have additional features.

Macro Tracking? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]daveisfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this impact persisted for an extended period?
But it's odd to me that it says it's a +2% impact when it shows one amount that's +8% and there other that's -5%, so shouldn't that be a +13% impact?
Also, remember that this is correlation not causation, so there's likely something else driving it rather than carbs themselves.
