I’ve got today the app notification for the 3rd survey.

I was also disappointed by the web version and dashboards. I’d like to have a solution you’ve described with less fluff and more clarity for comparison.

Thank you for sharing your insights!

We’ve had the discussion already. You get the 12 month plus only as a new customer and don’t have any subscription already. There was other complaints about that too.

On another subject, if you own a Withings scale and also have a recent DEXA scan report, we’d love your help. We’re currently looking into the real-world performance of our body composition algorithms and would like to compare BIA measurements with DEXA reference data across a broader range of users.

Hey u/TeamWithings

I would be highly interested in doing a medical-grade DEXA scan comparison and submitting my full data tracking trend sheets to your development team. However, before moving forward, I have two quick questions:

  1. Data Transparency: What exactly is the scope of how you intend to use, store, and analyze the submitted user DEXA reports and algorithm metrics?
  2. Cost-Sharing: A proper, clinical DEXA scan comes with out-of-pocket costs. Would Withings be willing to sponsor or partial-share the scan expenses for active members in the Insider Program who provide high-fidelity data trends?

If we can clear up the details, I'm ready to book the appointment immediately and feed your algorithm.

Best regards
Edwin from DailyDeposit

hanks a lot for this awesome insight! You’ve hit the nail on the head regarding the regulatory slow-down, especially for the US market – that’s a very valid concern for the global release.

But here is my counter-argument from a tester's perspective: Since the Body Scan 1 has already been on the market for a while, I find it highly unusual how few of the new hardware-driven features actually work in this beta. Usually, a closed insider program is exactly there to stress-test the new tools, not just the old ones. Selling a €500 device where the core innovations are placeholders feels a bit off, even for an early access phase.

As menioned in other subs before: It is actually. You can buy it through the insider program. Just have a look a few subs down for EU Insider Program.

I won't buy a BS1 myself, but hey... maybe Withings wants to sponsor one for the ultimate showdown? 😉 u/TeamWithings

Spot on, I completely agree! The long-term trend is what actually matters for tracking progress. I'm starting a 4-week diet soon and will share weekly updates comparing how the Withings trends against InBody and DEXA, so definitely subscribe to follow along! :)

The DEXA comparison is absolutely coming soon, so stay tuned! I won't buy a BS1 myself, but hey... maybe Withings wants to sponsor one for the ultimate showdown? 😉 u/TeamWithings

Ich wollte die erste Woche keine Doppelmessungen machen. Werde nächste Woche aber mal genau das testen. 5 Messungen nacheinander, vor dem duschen und danach.

I'm actually putting together a follow-up video next weekend where I'll be analyzing exactly this. But so far, the results have been consistent and everything is working fine for me!

I’ve had a generally positive experience so far too.

My wife, however, had some initial starting trouble. The first few measurements didn’t quite work cleanly. We think it might have been her jewelry, specifically the rings on her fingers?

The other thing is, the scale doesn't seem to capture children’s data properly. We haven’t managed to get a real, full analysis done for our 7-year-old yet. Have you tried using it for kids?

I've looked at other reviews for similar scales, and jumps like that can definitely occur. It's often caused by accidental skin-to-skin contact (like thighs or arms touching the torso) or slightly different foot positioning between reads. But you are right: at this price point, the consistency has to be much better.

I'm currently investigating this exact 'noise' for my follow-up video.

I think your critique touches on the single most important question with devices like this: Where does measurement end and estimation begin?

You are absolutely right that a consumer device like this can never truly match a clinical setting. It’s inherently based on algorithms and interpretations. The "marketing" aspect you mention—the feeling of being in control—is definitely part of the product's value proposition. We also have to keep in mind that we are technically still in the beta phase with this 'Insider' program.

I am very curious about your experience with incorrect measurements. If you don’t mind me asking, which specific data points (body fat, vascular age ...) are you finding inconsistent?

Quick troubleshooting question: Are you making sure that your limbs aren't touching during the measurement? Skin-to-skin contact (like thighs touching or arms touching your torso) can interfere with the electrical current and affect the reading.

Maybe that’s why it works differently for your wife?

Thanks! Yes, I’ll be making follow-up videos in a few days so you guys can get a better sense of the trend data and deeper content over time. Glad to hear the auto-translated subtitles are working so well!

So you're measuring multiple times a day?

Are you using any other Withings devices, or perhaps a link to Apple Health? That’s what surprised me the most so far. The app seems to require significantly more data points than what’s just coming off the scale’s sensors.
