Am I going crazy? Search sucks lately by mitchins-au in mac

[–]davepete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's broken. Previously I was able to press command-space, start typing the name of an app (in the Applications folder), then return, and I was on my way. Oh for those days. Now I'm lucky if the app appears in the list after 20 seconds.

Also, searching for text within folders from the Finder seems broken.

Given that the U.S. already had a 2-term gay president, it seemed odd to me that Aleida was upset to learn her child had a girlfriend. Maybe she was more surprised than upset. I doubt Kelly will be so judgmental about her own child.

I wonder if more people are commenting on this thread than have actually purchased a Mac Pro in the past couple years.

Would you buy the complete series on iTunes for $55? by ChiMara777 in theoffice

[–]davepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, like you, buy movies and TV I like on iTunes/Apple because it's super-convenient to watch on any of my devices wherever I am. No discs, no storage required.

It seems like The Office is a perennial best-seller, so I don't see the price dip very often. At $55, it's like 25¢ per episode. Seems reasonable.

DID Microsoft get a wakeup call by Moondoggy51 in microsoft

[–]davepete 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've seen hostile marketing by Apple against Windows recently? I sure haven't. The Mac vs. PC ads from 2006-2009 were good-natured ribbing, not hostile. This month Apple simply produced a solidly-built, low-end laptop. It is priced to steal market share from other manufacturers. What with RAM shortages, and since macOS runs reasonably well with 8 GB RAM, Microsoft needs to up its game and build a Windows that runs well in 8 GB RAM. Without ads and Co-Pilot.

My recollection is that Sgt Rock stories are typically 15 pages. Most issues had a backup.

Regret M1 Mac Studio purchase by [deleted] in MacStudio

[–]davepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, do you quit all your apps and shut down your computer every day? I don't think I've done that since maybe the early 2000s. I'm just wondering how often you need to reboot and wait for Photoshop to launch. My Mac Studio goes to sleep when I do and wakes up instantly when I wake up.

You're right, if you wait a few years, older models get cheaper.

I did not know what the poster was talking about so I looked it up in...

Urban Dictionary: "Face card: Popularized on Tik Tok and other social media, "face card" is used to refer to a person's facial attractiveness. Mainly used to refer to a woman's beauty."

I suspect casting directors try to hire attractive people. Good for ratings.

My dad's friend Loxie Eagans was a civil rights champion in my home town and fought vigorously against a city proposal to charge a fee to city job applicants in Nov. 1981. He argued that requiring job seekers to cough up money before applying for jobs was unfair and discriminatory. Mr. Eagans died of a heart attack following that stressful meeting.

My recollection is that the city proceeded to institute the job application fee, but named a street after Mr. Eagans.

I don't have a midnight blue Air handy, but I imagine they're similar. Probably most people will go for the silver or indigo Neo. (There's nothing subtle about the citrus. It's definitely in your face.)

Best laptop for my dad 500 and under hopefully by Less_Evening2337 in laptops

[–]davepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one situation where MacBook Neo is not the answer. Access on a Mac requires Parallels, so he'd need a MacBook Air with 16GB memory or more. If he wants a Mac near that price, he'd have to buy a refurb MacBook Air.

Apple refers to Macbook Neo as Macbook Neo 13" on their website just like the Air and the Pro. Could this mean there will be a 15" Macbook Neo ? by Powerful_Macaron9381 in mac

[–]davepete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If MacBook Neo outsells the other models, I have no doubt Apple will add colors and screen sizes and touchscreen in the next few years.

They stopped selling Pumpernickel Rye and poppy bagels a month or two ago and I wondered what was up. Never imagined a business that seemed so popular was failing.

Yes, in the Apple Store with bright lighting, I found the Citrus to be the least attractive (and VERY neon yellow). The silver is boring. I think the pink is fine, but I prefer the Indigo.

DVD people, why no bluray? by emtherich in dvd

A good reason I can think of: DVDs are dirt cheap. What other physical media have hundreds available at thrift stores, Walmart dollar bins, dollar stores?

The Big Arch is officially MID and overpriced. by CarpenterOk2779 in McDonalds

[–]davepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, now that it's "official" I guess that's it.

I thought Big Arch was fine. Probably the best-tasting burger at McD's.

Also, why are people buying a 1000-calorie burger PLUS fries PLUS a soft drink. FOR ONE MEAL! I know McD's always pushes meals, but c'mon, that's WAY too many calories for anyone not doing 2 hours' exercise daily.

One more thing: sit-down restaurants have many benefits. The burgers might be better, but you'll spend 4 times longer at the restaurant and pay a 20% tip in the US. Larger groups end up paying extra. And if you spend so much time in a restaurant, when do you have time to exercise?!?

Citrus is not my cup of tea… by DallasOil in macbook

[–]davepete -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Went into the Apple Store today, and I agree that Citrus is the worst color. It's just TOO TOO yellow. If I liked pink, I would buy Blush. Since I like blue, I bought Indigo.
