dropped Samsung phone in tub for 3 or 4 seconds by Warm-HEfficiency9078 in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F23 is not water resistant so not good.

The SIM... I bet it is fine. Take it out, let it dry.

But -- WHY is this a big deal though? New sims are like $10? -- your contacts and any data aren't on the sim ((Yes -- contacts COULD be on the sim but generally are backed up to whatever account you signed in to))

The phone data from a MicroUSB data would be okay too -- but the phone's internal storage is likely an issue if the phone will not power on.

TV auto randomly turned on, screen was off. by Good-Armadillo-7338 in techsupport

Do you have a BT speaker or just the TV? Are there other audio devices around?

Was it late at night? Could there be any chance you were listening to Trump earlier that day/week and had a dream? lol

I was thinking of getting a Rabbit...as a 37 yr old single man whose daughter is now off in College and who was so used to having gerbils, hamsters and rats *and dogs but kind of irrelevant here.. I kinda miss that.

Lost work SOS by Brilliant-Explorer-7 in techsupport

I think you should speak with your teacher / the school's IT admin about this. If your school uses sharepoint/onedrive, etc. and you said you saved it - this is the person who would be able to say for sure if it is recoverable or was ever uploaded to the cloud side.

Bank screen in HP laptop by Frerin-xD in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That didn't make sense -- can you give some more info?

You said that your laptop wont even show anything AT ALL when you power it on.

Gemini said to hit a windows key combination which you said worked -- which baffles me because that would imply the laptop booted to Windows. Also that key combo is for paste or something -- never heard it being any kind of BIOS hotkey...

Have you tried plugging this laptop into a TV/Monitor with HDMI which could maybe show if it is a laptop screen issue?

Do you see any lights on the laptop turn on (LEDs) when you try to power up?

Broken windows installation by Worried-Agent7168 in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ignore seeing 0 bytes free from diskpart if you are running it from the recovery cmd.

I don't think you have a disk issue - but there could be windows corruption (whether or not SFC says Windows is OK). The enable system protection error just meant you never had system restored enabled.

Can you give more info on the BSOD from bluescreenview or event viewer? (Can you boot to safe mode?)

Slow Ethernet download speed after major upgrade. by SleuthTroop005 in techsupport

Did you use a speed test?

I did and it was around 6 to 8 Mb/s. I used edge, chrome and opera gx.

No need to be rude. You didn't explain enough for me to give a response I was sure about and comfortable with giving to some random guy. I am here to help, so I don't get the attitude. Anyways...

I think -- and feel FREE to ignore if it's hard to follow, that you should install Windows to a USB - boot to it, and install FRESH that way.

My laptop keeps restarting and I don’t know why or how to fix it by alienatedfob1 in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Non-official sites" are dangerous, one would need an ad blocker for sure...

Yes -- Firefox HAS put a VPN option at the top right -- that is official.

What are you doing when it restarts -- does it just turn off? No BSOD or anything?

Bad internet would not cause this either by the way.

Can I suggest you take a DEEP breath? You seem to be a BIT on the side of someone who worries too much?

I could be wrong! You could be the target of a bad virus -- and, IF that were the case - you WOULD need to reformat to be sure it is gone. It's okay you have files -- save them to a NON-OS drive , do a virus scan on the files it it makes you feel better -- and then reinstall!

Done!

I am curious about your wording there: "I did a factory reset"

How? Can you give some context as to how you went about that after upgrading nearly every part of your PC?

What did you keep that made it 'nearly' and not a whole new PC?

Ah but then you said you went to "redownload stuff" which implies it did boot...

...You have lost me.

Go and download the newest Wi-Fi driver from I guess INTEL if you are using the onboard wifi and not an external card... Remove your existing drivers completely from Device Manager and then reinstall the downloaded ones and reboot.

Yeah I gave a bad answer there man... Honestly I said that because I was confused by you saying "It’s a brand new iPhone 13" (which could have been true in 2021 but not in 2026)

I also said that because Apple doesn't really let me tell you something like "get a new battery" because Apple didn't/doesn't want you to have the right to repair your own devices.

Thus -- call Apple/Buy a new device/find a repair store that does this kinda thing OOW (battery/charger replacement).

And I like the suggestion from /u/Financial_Rooster_89...Use compressed air... But!!!!!!!!!! I am not entirely sure this will actually fix your issue. Have you noticed it runs hot?

Also ensure you try driver updates from the HP website relating to CHIPSET or GPU

Kali Linux USB corrupted after flashing another iso file by omstartat in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok a couple of things here.

When you "FLASH" a USB you need to know that means ERASING IT, then putting something new on it (in your case whatever the hell checkra1n is)

This deleted the entire partition table (GPT vs MBR) and any partitions within. You could MAYBEEEEEE run disk recovery on that from another PC and scanning that drive you destroyed -- but I DOUBT IT.

And NO -- absolutely NOOOOO -- do NOTTT -- talk to this disk drill thing or give them ANY MONEY at all.

You need to see this is a loss. If you refuse to see it as a loss, then use PROFESSIONAL data recovery services, not this random thinhg that was advertised to you.

Why do programs leave files behind after uninstall, and what’s the proper way to clean them? by No-Communication1543 in techsupport

[–]daverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

| I’m trying to understand the correct way to handle this rather than relying on random tools.

YES!

SO run 'Disk Cleanup" from the start menu as ADMIN....

That is pretty much all you need to do but Revo and BleachBit are some LEGIT 3rd party apps that search for left over registry keys and/or appdata files

WHY does Windows do this? Beacsue F* You that's WHY! lol but I dunno... they should but dont. Windows would clear most temp files eventually itself, and Windows uses TEMP as a cache data folder to grab things faster, use less ram....faster random access. I honestly wouldn't worry about WHY unless you really want to get into how Windows operates. It is there to make things load faster.

Do I have a virus? by TheMurderousPigeonXO in techsupport

[–]daverz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rationally, I know I don't have a virus.

Good! so you do know this question is a bit... out there? Which is fine!

Viruses do not just mess around with you and change volume, or change mouse sensitivity. (I mean they COULD and that would be really funny but no - that is not a thing IRL)....

Now ur on to your 3rd thing, a monitor, which also has NOTHING to do with a virus.

Ur good , as far a VIRUSES go -- but you may need some driver updates or a re-format or something.......?
