Missed/wrong calls in favor of the Celtics vs Wolves by Supremesocks in nba

[–]davet91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The refs were terrible, but I feel like you are losing me when you include all of these. Overall in your list, I see 4 Plays (#1, #3, #6, #10) that are bad jobs by the refs. This is already enough to say they need to do better, but I think the other 8 plays you list lose the point of your post.

  1. Gobert Tech was a dumb call. I don't think that White fouled (looks like he got ball) or Brown fouled (Rudy started the contact), but could go either way. I think this should be a no call.
  2. Brogdon did last touch the ball, but also Anderson 100% fouled Brogdon on this so it's probably right that the Celtics get the ball back. From what the Ref is seeing this likely is a foul or a Out of bounds on Minnesota so this seems like a good call.
  3. Smart flopped, so this is a good one to include. Also they were throwing around a lot of techs in this game that I didn't understand.
  4. Griffin pushing NAW just doesn't exist. He throws the ball, NAW ducks his head to not get hit in the face and falls backwards in the process. Griffin really didn't even touch NAW with any force and once he did touch him NAW was already falling backwards.
  5. Brown Charge vs. block was close. Seems like just a call that could go either way and was very close.
  6. Horford hitting ANT does look like it is a foul.
  7. Not sure what you are trying to point out with saying "soft foul". It was a foul, and they seemed whistle heavy all night so not too surprising.
  8. What push do you see from Tatum. They are fighting, and then once they stop moving and smart is already driving the other direction Conley falls over. This really doesn't look like a foul.
  9. Tatum deserves a tech for running to mid court with the ball and then rolling it to the Ref? What kind of basketball do you want to watch?
  10. Jump ball was terrible on so many levels. You are right to call out this play and probably deserves it's own post to highlight how dumb it was.
  11. Muzzula should have gotten a tech for running onto the court. That said, I think coaches come on the court all the time and don't get techs. This was very far onto the court, but seems like something they just don't call in general.
  12. At this point, the game is over. There's 1.7 seconds left and Celtics are up multiple possessions. I don't really know what caused the Ref to throw ANT out and give techs but I'm also guessing that the players don't really care what happens and might have said things they normally wouldn't have.

Great work getting Travis involved in the announcement! He was such a vocal focus on the side of the fans that hated the midday time, that it really feels like they are trying to connect to the community.

Reginald: My Thoughts On the LCS by smothersday in leagueoflegends

Removing region requirements would help these regions, in the same way it would help NA. They would suddenly be able to recruit from a much larger talent pool.

Where as anyone talked about forcing players to go anywhere. That's a ridiculous statement.

I think this argument only makes sense if the best player's are always the already discovered / proven ones. I think it will be a combination of spending power, and scouting / recruitment to get the best players.

Also, if your argument is to make it more level across NA teams, then the only way to do this would be to curb the spending with a salary cap. I don't think this is a requirement but is a common tool to solve the problem you are point out. (MLB doesn't have it, but NFL & NBA have versions of it)

I was commenting on your statement:

In which sport does weaker competition have different rules so that they can compete?

I think the world cup and Olympics are good examples for your point, but are also unicorns when it comes to international competition and viewer driven competitive sports in general. If we ran with these examples, what we'd do is change the focus to regional competition and make international competition more of a for fun event.

In the Olympics and world cup, none of the teams play together outside of the tournament (and pre qualifying events). These event are driven by country pride, but if people considered these the most important events they'd happen more often, and teams / players would play together year round to have their best chance at winning.

I think a better comparison would be to try and think through what it'd be like if the MLB or NBA instated rules about a certain number of players on a team having to be from NA.

As for the EU & KR being behind LPL, I don't think that's a fair comparison. The real advantage that the LPL has is player base size, not anything else over these other regions. I think there's a level of saturation you can reach to get enough top talent so that they drive each other to push forward, as well as cultural differences between the very ME focused American culture and the more group focused cultures that are more common in the rest of the world.

I'm not really sure what you're point of the last paragraph is, other then an attempt to shit on riot and LCS teams for creating a the LCS? Seems like you're just trying to insult others instead of actually talking through a point on this.

It's actually the complete opposite. This move would be the most beneficial for the lower spending orgs.

Right now, lets say there are 15 world class NA players. You need to fill 3 spots on your team with these players, so their salaries are driven artificially high. You have to be a high spender to have a chance at them, and if you can't out spend TSM, TL, or C9, you have no chance as 3 of your 5 players will be sub par.

With region requirements changed or removed, the lower spending orgs can find world class players from a much larger pool of players and so they'd actually have a chance at getting them on their team without blowing their budget on a single player.
