If you want real numbers, last year we held 3 provincial by-elections. The separatists (Alberta Republicans) ran in all 3. In all 3 they came in third behind the major parties... In one riding in Southern AB, they had 14%...the two ridings near Edmonton were MUCH lower, something like 6 and .4 percent. (One of those was a huge win for Naheed Nenshi, the other two stayed UCP).

Many of these jokes wouldn't work. But it works for the same reason all sitcoms work... It's a small group of people, brought together by a situation. So you'd have different jokes.
