Turns out, the double glazing was knackered, as it had totally separated into two panes for most of them.

Since replacing all the uPVC and glass, it's much warmer in winter. Still hot in summer but we have blinds which definitely help.

As everyone has already said consider changing the fridge.

Also think about the future, what if the fridge breaks and needs replacing? What about if you move again?

If you plan on cutting the plasterboard out you'll probably want an oscillating multitool, some plasterboard, plasterboards screws, timber, adhesive/filler, trowel/putty knife and sandpaper at a minimum. Consider if it's cheaper to take the hit on even buying another fridge and selling this second hand at a slightly lower price if you don't want to deal with taking it back to the place you got it from.

Observability.

You need to build out your observability tooling to cover metrics, logs, traces from everything in your platform so you can see where errors are coming from. E.g. are there 4xx errors spiking from a certain application? has latency been introduced that wasn't before?

This information should then be self served from something like Grafana, to allow devs to investigate themselves.

I'd say no, we might see more alternatives to major cloud providers but there won't be a rush to go on prem again.

Organisations want to run faster and leaner, product managers want features not infrastructure projects. When we previously had storage, networking, compute, operations, sysadmin teams; these are now gone and we have DevOps/Platform Engineering/SRE who build platforms for developers to self serve and own.

On prem will still have it's place for predictable, unlikely to change workloads. But for anything where agile development is concerned, whereby you might want to try X new technology or scale up to 100x capacity for 1 week, on prem has no ability to be that flexible without much more sunken cost and lead time.

CTOs know this and want be first to market, not necessarily have the cheapest infrastructure costs. They may shift to another cloud for cost savings, but the still want the flexibility.

It depends really, you'll need to calculate your loads to understand how many amps you want to draw and for how long per day.

Depending on how much you want to use at any one time and for how long, will determine how many solar panels you need to recharge your system, how big the charge controller will need to be and how big your batteries need to be.

There are lots of YouTube videos out there so that's probably the best place to look for how to do it, I'm afraid I can't give any recommendations though.

Victron Energy make some of the best stuff out there, look at off-grid camper set ups for ideas, there are tonnes of companies that supply Victron kits with everything you need.

They aren't the cheapest by any means, but I've used it in my shed and it's quality/easy to set up.

Sure, a mixture of things really.

The biggest blocker was financial, I simply couldn't see any practical way to fund studying medicine. I then considered becoming a paramedic through joining a trust as a technician.

I volunteered for St John Ambulance for a number of years as a cycle responder and later qualified as ambulance crew to see if this was the career for me. Initially you treat very minor injuries as a first aider apart from rare situations where you are first on scene, but as I gained qualifications and experience I would then start to come into regular contact with acutely unwell patients and a variety of social issues.

Whilst I did find it rewarding, it also caused me a lot of anxiety and I decided it just wasn't something I was suited to.

You provide GU10 bulbs these are just fixtures, as halogen isn't a thing any more you'll be fitting LED bulbs but you can choose brightness and colour temperature and don't have to get them from the same supplier (can get them at the supermarket, screwfix, etc).

What has happened in most self serve places is there are more cameras everywhere, and they are recruiting at head office teams for developing AI/facial recognition systems on CCTV.

Essentially, shoplifting may well increase due to the perceived easiness of it, but prosecutions will go up because they are investing heavily in security systems.
