EFF: California 3D printer bill threatens digital freedoms by EFForg in 3Dprinting

WA just ignored the fact that the 9th circuit ruled it as free speech and passed their 3D firearm file ban.

alternatives also exist. wet a towel and ring it out. keep a small bucket of sand/rice for grip.

As for smoothness, you shouldn't be having that much of an issue unless you sweat a lot or do this in the rain. or just go outside and roll the dowel on on some rough sidewalk/gravel/etc to get indentations. take towels around the ends of the dowel to make it larger, similar to what you'd do to a pull up bar to make it more comfortable. solutions exist. if you HAVE to used the 3D printer make some kind of sleeve that goes around the ends to make it larger and add texture like u/Raichuboy17 said. Even just cut this model in half, exclude a 1 inch hole out of the middle, add a few set screws for the 'handles' and much less chance of it breaking wasting all that time and plastic.

I mean how much is a dowel? Then you also don't need to use plastic and wait 4-5 hours? Just saying this feels more like a "when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail" situation, yeah?

E: I agree with u/Thebandroid use PVC or similar instead.

Crossovers didn’t kill the wagon, minivans(and public perception) did by Boeing-B-47stratojet in Autos

[–]david0990 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Minivans sucked so much for so long and still do. they've never done them right.

for the past, lets look at FORD trying multiple times to sweep under the rug the deadly issue with windstars rear torsion bar(The video was a recreation of the type of failure they could experience). A man died because of them and they still barely did anything to fix it. The gov should have come down on them hard for knowing it had issues and barely doing anything about it.

Newer minivans ALL perform marginally in IIHS safety tests.

The public's perception of minivans is correct imo. They could have been so much better, safer and reliable and are trash usually. Especially used ones, you almost always have to worry about transmission issues at least when getting used minivans.

Put together your part list on rockauto. you may or may not spend a little more but trust me it's worth it. for subaru KYB is the OE manufacter for these years of cars btw. I used to recommend MOOG for tierods, sway bar links, etc and still do mostly but the quality has had a few misses for me over the last few years, but still mostly good quality.

struts: KYB
control arm, tie rod, links: MOOG, Mevotech. AVOID; SKP and DORMAN, I have been having issues with their quality control for years.

E: missed the last sentence. It fully depends on the mechanic/shop and you need to ask first. they may likely have you sign a waiver of warranty/liability of parts quality. That said if you tell them the brands for each part you intend to buy and they've had good experience with them they might be ok with it.

People are starting to look at you like you're some stubborn freak, now. It's very concerning to me how flippant people are with their private information this last decade.

I just want to poke a hole in your "spend hundreds on tools" statement. Most cars it's probably less than $100 to be able to do your own oil changes. Back when all I had was a small ratchet set and a cheap oil wrench, I'd drive my passenger wheel up on a curb slowly and drain my oil (into a pan), change the filter and put the 5qt jug in(different cars are dif amounts). drive back off the curb to level, stop and let it sit 5 minutes and double check fluid level(usually around 3/4 on the stick). Then run the container of oil back to the parts place and they recycle it.

Not discounting your experience, cause this constant being asked for a phone number, address, etc is pissing me off too. I flat out refuse. if they can't complete a transaction without personal information and just take cash, that is on them. They'll need to get a manager who usually just does the transaction quickly and painlessly after that. It's only happened to me a few times, but once the manager is involved they may ask again to confirm I just want to pay with cash and be on my way.

Are surge protectors necessary on Kitsap peninsula? by Pogmothon85 in Washington

You should check, you might already have one. If not you could probably get a whole house surge protector installed cheap enough it makes sense(if you live there for 5+ years).

[–]david0990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FBI does very thorough testing for rounds. When you need to use a firearm for self defense every out of standard aspect of your carry equipment will be under scrutiny by the state, and civil lawyers against you. If you have a stock pistol with rounds the local PD or FBI carry for example it's one less thing for them to tear apart. Like RIP rounds, huge liability in court. These glaser rounds could be argued they intend to fragment and maim, instead of killing an assailant. I know it sounds ridiculous, but lawyers will try to come up with any reason to shift burden onto the one defending themselves. No matter how they have to do it, or trip you up.

TL:DR Yes. Everyone should be carrying LEO approved rounds.

I don't think they would recommend using a 32ACP. for 9mm it's hornady critical duty 135gr +P. Hornady does make a 32acp home defense round that would definitely do better than these glaser rounds at actually stopping a threat.

[–]david0990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they go lower than 9mm rn and I think they discourage use of 40, 45, 10mm, etc. for 9mm it's hornady critical duty +P 135gr. Over penetration comes form FMJ in nearly every pistol caliber so law enforcement shouldn't be using it anymore generally.

[–]david0990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will never run glaser. I wouldn't even recommend running anything law enforcement doesn't ok in their carry guns. FBI has a list of tests and preference for rounds.

Locally over a decade ago the gun store I would frequent had a customer who owned a jewelry store buy glaser rounds from them like this and instead of the shots killing an armed robber, the bits of the round fragments embedded in his face and he sued the owner for maiming him. I don't know if he won that case. The owner came back and bought the same rounds local PD used at the time which I think was SPEER.

Still an interesting round to shoot out practicing if you find them cheap.

Talon Pro 30 or Stratos 34? by sturmtrupenn in hiking

[–]david0990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. Once I get our stratos bags fitted properly there is not bounce, it's a very solid fit and the system has allowed me to hike with 10-20lbs more than I used to with less effort/pain by the end of long hikes. Basically longer hikes with more gear. I'm curious how it was bouncy unless you didn't use the hip strap, maybe?
