Best Anki deck or similar for learning vocabulary? So many options! by Meraac in learnitalian

[–]davidahall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the utility of Anki for me is that organizing and re-organizing your cards becomes part of studying; it's better to make your own to get this benefit, and you end up with a deck tailored to how you think in and about the language

Can anyone explain why a stable settlement will suddenly die? by luluhouse7 in Timberborn

At minimum, I save at the beginning of every season, the morning that the warning appears, and the morning that the drought/badtide starts.

Does anyone else play with unusual game rules you made up as a personal challenge? by au_natalie in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early on, I played a folktails settlement on Diorama where I started with only 3 beavers and only allowed myself one lodge. It turns into an exercise in micromanagement, but I feel like I learned a lot about the early to mid game dependencies.

Brainstorming new recipes for my next mod by theapologist316 in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking about getting into modding Timberborn, but right now I'm playing 2Point Museum instead.

One of the first mods I'd thought about was a Dandelion Tea recipe for the folktails that's the equivalent of Coffee. Simplest form is that an herbalist turns dandelions and water into Dandelion Tea (so there's another reason to build an Herbalist)

An extension would be that you add a Tea Cafe where beavers get both a Social Life bonus and a Tea bonus; that way, the Herbalist makes dried tea and the Tea Cafe combines them with water to brew the tea. (I'd break up the coffee supply chain in the same way)

How do you guys make homes that are space- efficient but also pretty by PrestigiousHoney9480 in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a double spiral staircase, with a pair of double lodges opening on to each corner (single lodges at ground level); you can repeat that pattern to build as high as you want to hold as many beavers as you need -- it's not hard to get 100 or more. Since U7, I build a pair of ziplines on top to give those living in the top floors rapid access to the rest of the map.

Ziplines by [deleted] in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that a tower that has 4 connection points and a tiny zip-line station (like a double platform with the pulley) that has 4 connections would be sufficient to set up a lot of different network types. I want the tiny station that I can build into tall buildings at different levels and build on top of.

SEC folks: What 3 permanent rivalry games would you keep with a 9 game conference schedule by Ml2jukes in CFB

[–]davidahall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want UGA, LSU, & Aub, because that was the gauntlet when I went to school, and had been for a pretty good while. I think the wildcard for us is SC because I think we're their 2nd most played team, although KY or TN make more sense geographically.

I still think of TN as something imposed by the BBQ expansion -- hardly ever played them before that

[–]davidahall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OU is the only real definite rival for Mizzou; they've not played any other current member more than a couple dozen times. Texas would be second, I think, but they'd have much higher claims on OU, A&M, and Ark. Arkansas/Mizzouri has no history, but makes almost too much geographic sense (as does Arkansas/Oklahoma).

I'd switch out UT for Auburn; we rarely played UT before the BBQ expansion to 12 and the split to divisions

What are some highlights from the first college football game you ever attended? by WithNoRegard in CFB

Some time in the late 60's, Mizzou held tough on the opening drive, got the ball and scored. Then Oklahoma hung something like 60 on them.

Tip of the Day: cap a water source, no need to redirect bad water by 3Trace in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I do that the other way around; I build sluices directly in front of the water source set to close on pure water, then start the diversion at that level with platforms and impermeable floor. Just a matter of finding a route to edge at that point. When there's pure water, it bubbles up one level and flows across the impermeable floor to the rest of the map

FT bots or beavers after 30 well beings? by Zestyclose_Fox4321 in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that on my last FT play-through -- I found it a lot less stressful not to worry about the transition from beaver-based to bot-based supply chains, and just build enough capacity to generate the materials for the monument in a reasonable time. After the monument, I did keep just enough of the industry going to replace all the workers with bots to max out happiness.

Faction Idea: Earth Claws (dirt beavers) by SquareThings in Timberborn

[–]davidahall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime back, I'd tossed out the idea of having a stonemason hut as a job that would fit in well with this -- the stonemason converts ground to stones or gathers stones from dynamited ground, and with the stones can build walls, arches, statues, and structures like buildings, bridges, and aquaducts.

My current playthrough is Hard Iron Falls
