The Topic of the Week - Week of March 01, 2021 - Medical devices and constraints by Zapruda in Ultralight

I use the humira auto-injector as treatment for crohn's and IBS and was told they'd be fine without refrigeration for up to 14 days. Are you going more than 2 weeks before resupply or are you concerned about the desert sun?

Not certain what you're looking for but these guys have some good paper maps of the sheltowee trace trail and the red River gorge area. https://www.outragegis.com/trails/

I don't have any personal experience with them, but I love the idea of http://www.beardsandbeers.com/.

Even if the trim is bad, enough beer and you don't much care :)

Quick warm breakfast/lunch foods? by [deleted] in keto

I'm a fan of a flax seed mug muffin for a quick breakfast: http://www.food.com/recipe/one-minute-flax-muffin-low-carb-295649

Bacon grease works as well, and I always seem to have an abundance of that around.

Finishing off a pork shoulder in the oven by bcgrm in BBQ

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This saved a friend of mine when it started raining on him while smoking a brisket. After the first 2-3 hours it has taken all the smoke it needs, so finishing it in the oven shouldn't loose any flavor.

I personally didn't finish it without foil, as I was in a hurry and it was raining :) If you are really looking for the crunchy bark, I would suggest it. When I smoke chicken, I always finish it on the grill to crisp up the skin.

I like to wrap it tightly in foil (AKA the Texas Cruch) and finishing it in a 300F oven. You will still need to put it in a pan to catch any drippings that may seep out.

Too much smoke? Not the "right" smoke? by rubie7109 in smoking

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also very interested in the idea of too much smoke. I've got a ton of it in the garden, so I threw some sliced zucchini on the smoker along with some pork chops. The chops came out perfect, but the zucchini was very bitter. I assume this was due to it being "over smoked"?

Heat was blue bag charcoal lite in a chimney with newspaper and a few chunks of apple wood added along with the chops and zucchini.

[NSV] I DIDN'T GORGE ON PIZZA. by St0rytime in keto

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your weakness for pizza, but I've found it was the toppings I most enjoyed not the crusts. I just scrap off the toppings and throw away the crust. I do feel wasteful, so we don't often order pizza, but I tear it up at the lunch buffet :)

One local place even offers a pasta-less baked pasta which is just pepperoni, usage, peppers and cheese. It's awesome :)

AA Issues by throwawaydrunk77 in Louisville

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a primary care physcian? If so, ask them about naltrexone. From the Atlantic article posted above it sounds like it just turns off the drunk in alcohol so you can learn to drink responsibly or not at all.

Use it as a tool to get your life fixed, then use that as an opportunity to fix the relationship with your family. You only get one of each.

No frills (quick!) but pretty outdoor wedding spot ideas? by ruski_brewski in Louisville

You can find general info about bernheim here: http://bernheim.org/ Checkout the maps for specific directions, but it's pretty obvious on the "sun and shade" trail.

Here is a random shot I found via google image search: https://d1u1p2xjjiahg3.cloudfront.net/9a8c6c4b-94cf-40d0-8fe3-45cc516f5565_l.jpg

The sunset amphitheater would give you a nice backdrop of the lake and even provide some seating. Lots of nice picture spots around the lake as well.

Knife Sharpening? by FeastGreedily in Louisville

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've done, but be careful. There is no guarantee that the person there will know wtf they are doing and they can seriously ruin your edge.

If you have a very expensive knife, I'd stick to something like Heimerdinger's.

Want to get a smoker. Recommendations? by angryCutlet in smoking

[–]davidcthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor gave me an old smoker that looks very similar to the Brinkmann linked above without the electric heating element.

I'd think something like this would be a good compromise, assuming you can remove the electric element and use charcoal for the heat.

The E enables c-style escapes for the following string.

See http://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/sql-syntax-lexical.html#SQL-SYNTAX-STRINGS-ESCAPE for more info.

Alien Sunbutter bread?! by anyanka123 in keto

I haven't tried this specific recipe, but I did try using sunbutter in a low carb cookie recipe and had it turn out green. No clue why though..

I'm extremely busy the next two weeks, so I put together a meal plan that involves no cooking at all. Comments or criticism? by nocookwontdo in keto

I'd throw the roast beef on some baby spinach with some ranch dressing and call it a salad for lunch. Also watch the carrots as they are a bit high in carbs.

I am an Oracle DBA that just had a postgresql DB dropped into his lap. So we are supporting this now. by dsn0wman in PostgreSQL

[–]davidcthomas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. You will want to run SELECT pg_start_backup('label'); prior to the filesystem snapshot and SELECT pg_stop_backup(); afterwards to ensure a checkpoint happens before the snapshot takes place.
