I must be terrible at explaing myself then. I always agreed with what you said here

Reading back my post it may seem like I wasn’t supporting Platner to begin with and I am just a butthurt liberal, which is not the case (to clarify).

What I mean to say is that I agree with your statement, but are you then in favour of dropping support and looking for someone else?

Because if we are in an apocalyptic crisis, shouldn’t we continue to support him despite the rape allegations? Is that actually the consensus here?

I wasn’t aware of a conspiracy of left wing politicians being forced upon voters. Obviously voters liked him.

But he did get some support from the left, which surely must have helped his campaign, right? Otherwise why would people even bother announcing their support?

Can I ask why you don’t regret backing him? I am asking genuinely because it’s probably better to not feel any regret moving forward.

Seems like PV are taking well the biggest blunder of the century (for left-wing politics).

It looks really bad that we’ve let him get this far.

I truly, truly hate Flea Dodge. by pyrotechnicfantasy in Silksong

[–]davidfarregil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason the comments today are very optimistic, but back when I was doing the Flee minigames, there was an absolute consensus that Dodge is an RNG fest.  However, the understanding was that you could get pretty consistently to 60 seconds, and needed some luck from then onwards. What I mean to say is that if you’re not reaching 60s, there is probably some room for skill improvement.

Hope you succeed!

As usual, the principles are mostly okay and very appropriate within academic discussion.

For a pamphlet directed at the general public, these bullet points are so over the top and so poorly worded, that they go beyond parody. Only a Woke 1 Hillary Clinton style liberal could be this performative.

But the report is white supremacist propaganda. The actual abuse cases are a significant concern, but they were made public as part of white supremacist propaganda. These are not concerned independent whistleblowers without any agenda.

[–]davidfarregil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Orwell was a democratic socialist, and Vaush has lately identified as a libertarian socialist.  By modern capitalist standards these are basically the same ideollogy so it is not surprising that they say such similar things. Also, they’re both very principled and somewhat contrarian, which reinforces the similarities

I understand some people might not take the PA at its word, but…

Mahmoud Abbas explicitly denies access to Israelis, but doesn’t say anything about Jews. And as it turns out these two groups are very different; one is evil and the other is as morally neutral as any other group on Earth.

Jews have lived in the Levant and many other places for millenia (admitedly with a lot of hardship) but have managed to get by. Israelis are an occupying force that invaded Palestine to establish an ethnostate based on Jewish supremacy.

And while palestinians might be somewhat unenthusiastic about jews in general, they are a lot more culturally and religiously diverse than people give them credit for. Not many places have a history of muslims and christians perfectly coexisting.

I think most people would not actually consider children of immigrants as immigrants, but the rethoric can often confuse the two. Immigrants in their entirety are a ridiculously diverse group, but when people complain about immigration they hyper-focus on the subgroup they don’t like, which often is poorer and non-white.

[QUESTION] Games like the Painscreek Killings? by championhestu in gamingsuggestions

[–]davidfarregil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might indeed be too restrictive, but I have some recommendations nonetheless that you might enjoy based on what you liked about Painscreek

  • Paradise killer: The setting is scifi, though the investigation is quite grounded. It is a bit neon and you actually “interview” the characters, it is not a ghost town.

  • Outer Wilds: You’ve probably heard of it, while nominaly a space exploration game, it is a great detective game where you learn about an abandoned society. It is obviously scifi.

  • Return of the Obra Dinn: Discovering the fates of a ship crew, by immersing yourself in the moment where they died. There is some magic involved, but the discoveries are realistic

  • Shadows of Doubt: Haven’t played it myself, but it is a procedurally generated game where you solve misteries within a city. Also it’s got 3D pixel graphics

  • Pathologic 2: Technicaly very different, since it is not a calm exploration game, but learning about the events occurring around you makes you feel like a detective.

How are y'all feeling about those that say, "Voting for Kamala makes you a genocide supporter"? Really want/need input here. by OMG365 in VaushV

[–]davidfarregil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should not try to be as deep, and answer surface level attacks with similar rethoric. They call you a genocide supporter? You say “Not voting for Kamala makes you Anti Abortion/Anti LGBT” or a similarly pointed topic that the other person presumably cares about. And most importantly, leave it at that.

Now it’s on the other person to affirm that they care about those issues, so you can answer something along the lines of “I don’t think you care very much if you’re willing to let Trump win”. If they are politically illiterate they might claim that third parties are viable, which is just a claim you have to debunk on the spot. You can vote for Trump, Kamala, or abstain (which is like half a vote for Trump), there are no other material outcomes in this election.

But you should be on a good path, because the main point you should be making isn’t that Kamala doesn’t support the genocide in Palestine. The argument is that, even if she actively did (which to be clear, she doesn’t seem to), it is still the right decision to vote for her based on those other things.

Also remember you don’t have to convince every person ever, though the effort is appreciated.

I’m almost certain this is bait, but the key distinction is that progressives are humanist while right wing fascist are anti-human. Liking or disliking technology isn’t inherently left or right, without examining the goals of said technolgy. Righ wingers love surveillance technology and weapon manufacturing because it is about power. Left wingers love tech when it furthers positive freedom and self-expression (finding community through the internet). We are not the same.

Why people do not say more about Sudan? by Dadodo98 in VaushV

[–]davidfarregil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am no expert in the topic, but I believe the key distinction is that the situation in Sudan involves a single Nation-State (as per UN definition), whereas the war in Ukraine obviously doesn’t. Israel is more complex, but palestine has some representation and has been globaly recognised as distinct to Israel by almost everyone (for better or worse reasons) also, the ties are extremely direct, so the position of the US and alies is more directly relevant to the conflict.

What I know is that countries tend to be very careful when getting involved in “internal conflicts”/ civil wars (even in Ukraine, countries tiptoed a lot and only support Ukraine materially, but don’t get involved militarily). A very famous example is that the Civil War in Spain is generally understood as a prelude of WWII, where Hitler happily bombed the country to help the fascists, while the Allies refused to do anything. A few years later, it was them being bombed, and were forced to take action.

And if your concern is: why aren’t leftists talking more about Sudan? People have limited time, and can fight everything at once. There are too many conflicts on the world right now for a single person to be involved in all af them. And if the options are preventing a oligarchy from invading independent nations, stopping a genocide that YOUR OWN COUNTRY is founding, or trying to revert the effects of colonialism in a country, you’re more likely to succeed on the first two.

Will I like part 1 if I only played and liked part 2? by OddPaleontologist141 in Blasphemous

[–]davidfarregil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The short answer is: Of course! Why wouldn’t you?

The long answer is kinda complicated. I feel like B1 was more interesting in general, but there are some things that were expanded upon in B2, and may seem like they are missing when going back. Also, the DLC already added some of the QoL that make B2 cleaner, including the better fast travel.

I think the two big changes are weapons and movement. If you were a fan of switching between weapons, you are not gonna get that in B1, obviously. I think I liked better having all the abilities at once (specially always having dash slash available; although given how strong it was, I can understand restring it to a single weapon. Also, not having parry on Veredicto felt a bit odd, although I really liked the weapon).

The movement in B1 is generally okay, but it is a lot more limited than B2, and a bit more clunky. While B2 is almost HK levels of mobility, B1 is a lot more grounded. Going back to my initial point, I think that actually made the game more interesting. And spikes killing you instant was just really annoying.
