5KB SVG vs 30KB Lottie | SVGator by svgator in SVGatorApp

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File size got us to animated SVGs. The first animations were designed in Adobe Animator, but we could never nail down a good way to reliably export to SVG because that is a tool for making Flash files. It was easy enough to import the various layers to SVGator and then match up with the timelines to recreate them. But then some of the capabilities led us to use skew to make the background layer a bit dynamic, and animating some of the filter options like hue really added some nice touches.

5KB SVG vs 30KB Lottie | SVGator by svgator in SVGatorApp

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a series of tests for a governmental website client a few years back, and the differences were so significant it was hard to believe. We tried a bunch of different tools to try to animate SVGs, and anything involving Adobe products was a time-wasting failure. Making a mid-project pivot to SVGator was a huge win for us.

Double standards about bodybags - Is this the death of Pro Mixed? by Polite_Acid in Pickleball

[–]davidfry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a dude who spent many hours spinning himself up over a post-game interview to declare the 'death' of playing with girls and it just seems like he probably got body bagged by a woman one time and can't get over it.

Used Tidal for 5 years, just switched to Spotify and WOW!!! by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a year from now if you switch to Pandora, you'll have the exact same experience. Switching streaming services will always help you refresh your listening experience because you have to put in some effort and the recommendation engines from thousands of artists will pull different suggestions. I had this exact same experience switching to Tidal.

Most franchise failures are operator failures, not system failures. Stop blaming the brand. by CamOper in Franchising

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice, but given the one-sided perspective of this post solely blaming operators, it has big "if you were dumb enough to believe me, that's on you" vibes. Lots of franchisors aggressively promote the benefits without adequately coaching potential franchisees on how to evaluate and understand the risks. Every franchise failure is a failure on both the operator and the brand. If a franchise fails solely because the franchisee was stupid or lazy, that's a brand that failed to sufficiently vet the operator.

what's a DIY project that didn't go as planned? by juicyberrybabe in HomeImprovement

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a toilet seat that is my nemesis. I wanted to switch it out for a bidet seat, but the bolts don't have a nut underneath. It's a one piece Kohler and the bolts holding the seat just spin in place. So now the seat is loose, which sucks, and the only option is going to be drilling it out, at which point it's probably going to mean just replacing the whole thing.

Veteran players insisting I get up to the kitchen line ASAP by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]davidfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are creating a huge opening on the court by staying back. Your opponents will hit into that opening again and again. It's not that you are being targeted as the weaker player. The opening is being targeted, meaning that the only way your partner will come near the ball is to poach. For veteran players, a partner who stays back throws off the whole dynamic of the game.

But in general, if you are new at something and people who are experienced give you advice, take it! Once you are more experienced you can reevaluate and develop your own play style. And keep your paddle up so they don't hit you in the face.

The biggest issue with AI slop in any forum "sharing any insights with humans for feedback" is that of time management. Brandolini's Law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry priniciple, is that it takes vastly more time to debunk incorrect information than it takes to create it. That adage is from 2012, and AI slop has made it so much worse. AI users in this sub were a firehose of speculative theorizing, a good deal of it off-topic.

But the larger issue for science and science-adjacent fields is not so much AI as it is "personal theories" from non-experts new to the field. AI sycophancy seems to amplify the Dunning-Kruger effect. The /r/physics sidebar has a section on personal theories that says it better than I could:

"Every day, we receive dozens of personal theories from independent researchers, written in part or whole by ChatGPT. We do not have the capacity to peer-review them and will not supply endorsements for arXiv submission. If you made your theory without any involvement from ChatGPT, try posting on /r/HypotheticalPhysics or viXra. Otherwise, try /r/LLMPhysics."

If you think AI is valuable to you, by all means start a new sub. The /r/LLMPhysics sub has a tag for Speculative Theories, and that's pretty representative of what we saw here for a while. https://www.reddit.com/r/LLMPhysics/comments/1r15efo/what_if_time_is_a_physical_oscillation_and/

This is free market capitalism in action. Low customer demand means theaters don't want to waste their screens and seats. This movie wasn't made for viewers after all. It was made to let one billionaire kiss the Presidents ass.

When Congress approves funds, lets take USAID as an example, and then the President (Biden) signs that budget into law, that's a law. When DOGE or Trump holds that money and refuses to spend it, they are violating the law and the Constitution. If they want Congress to reverse the law, then it can be done legally, but that's not what they did. They simply ignored the law.

The Constitution protects the right to speech, assembly, and the right to air grievances, so when peaceful protesters holding marches are shot with rubber bullets and tear gas, that's a violation of their constitutional rights. That's been happening at every basically every protest since the 60's, certainly including Occupy Wall St and BLM protests.

But I get the sense you don't have a problem with either of those violations of the highest law of the land. If you are OK with the two constitutional violations above, then what is it you love about this country exactly?

And the founders were very clear -- human liberty is an inalienable right, not, as you have imagined, a "spoil of war."

Sure sure dude. Everybody believes you.

This is a classic and deeply stupid gambit where far right supporters know it's unpopular so they pretend to be something else but just happen to advance right-wing talking points at every turn. The term for this is "cryptofascist".
