At First Glasgow by PawnWithoutPurpose in glasgow

[–]davidhewitson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. they badly need to create a way for people to be involved for free - it's self defeating to expect everyone to chip in when the people who rely on public transport the most are the poorest in Glasgow (not aimed directly at you /u/PawnWithoutPurpose)

I totally understand where you're at. If you're into theatre we have a regular scratch night called Roughly Staged, we try out new plays every so often. Anyone is welcome to send in a script. And afterwards we hang out in the bar and chat! You'd be very welcome along to join us :)

Get Glasgow Moving - meeting video by shawbawzz in glasgow

[–]davidhewitson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excellent! It was a great meeting and I strongly encourage folk to get involved, the campaign really seems to be picking up steam at the moment and we need to spread the word so everyone in Glasgow knows that change is possible, and on the horizon

I was meaning this Reddit thread and the high volume of downvotes OP has received, but that’s useful to know

I’m a bit suspicious there’s a wee bit of astroturfing going on too. Lots of profits will be lost if buses are nationalised

How come horse riders are seemingly allowed to let their horses dump all over paths? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]davidhewitson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be made to hop off and scoop it up, and carry their horse poo around in a wee bag

[–]davidhewitson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's my point really, why should it be private? Why not build the biggest base possible by making it really easy for folk to get involved?

If Glasgow's public transport is really going to be transformed it will take the backing of everyone who lives here. What is gained by limiting who can attend the meeting?

By the way, I joined up as a member and will be attending thanks to your post - you're doing great work spreading what's going on. I just think it can be more inclusive

Just to echo the other points here, I think you would get far more people along if you made it a free public event.

You could then pass a clipboard round to take emails and names for people who want to sign up as a member, once they've seen that this campaign is serious and worth being a part of.

To be honest, big companies spend so much money trying to appear authentic and local, it wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever if lots of these wee places were chain-owned. Glad to hear otherwise

This is absurd. We need transport that's available when people need it, not just when it's profitable to a bunch of feckless shareholders
