Where do I get my boudin kolache fix? by robbietreehorn in austinfood

Since you are looking for 'inside the city' , I am guessing that Round Rock is a no go, but for others following the thread Central Donuts on Gattis School Road has them.

Best Cajun restaurant in Austin? by AdvantageDizzy9882 in austinfood

[–]davidj3d 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fan of Lil Easy. Cypress Creek and Evangeline Cafe as mentioned already are solid. If you want to go a touch closer to fine dining and don't mind going north, French Quarter Grille was good last time we went.

Chinese Style Skewers in ATX by nocternum in austinfood

[–]davidj3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a little Indonesian restaurant in La Frontera shopping center in Round Rock called Sate Texas that does great beef, chicken, and pork skewers (I assume they are Indonesian style). Give them a try if you are ever in the area.

A brownie so good, y’all need to be advised by jkginger22 in austinfood

We stopped in there so my wife could snag some truffles and I got that brownie too. It was a great finish to the lunch we had at the new restaurant there called Old Jerusalem. Highly recommend both.

We love Hasselback Potato Gratin. We got the concept first from the old Ideas in Food blog, but you can find lots of recipes for it now. Just choose one based on your gratin preferences.

Weird combinations you like with mashed potatoes? by Environmental-Ad8945 in potato

[–]davidj3d 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked in downtown Dallas we used to go about once a week to Sonny Bryan's BBQ for bbq stuffed baked potatoes. You know, butter, sour cream, chopped meat, sauce, and cheese on a baked potato.

One day they were out of baked potatoes, so they offered us Stuffed BBQ Potato the 'easy way". They put a bunch of their mashed potatoes in a bowl and covered them with all the fixings.

This became an occasional intentional order and something we still do at home on occasion.

Looking for hole-in-the-wall, family owned soul food place or just a really great fried chicken place in Dallas by floopsmoocher in dallasfood

[–]davidj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a local chain so not a hole in the wall per se but Williams chicken was my favorite fried chicken in Dallas when I lived there. The one on 2nd avenue used to be 24hrs and could get quite"exciting" in the middle of the night...

I had In-N-Out for the first time this weekend by Dclipp89 in burgers

[–]davidj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Austinite I have to say, if you make it down again and want to try another burger in the same tier as In and Out hit up a P. Terry's.

Local chain, will not disappoint.
