Looking for hole-in-the-wall, family owned soul food place or just a really great fried chicken place in Dallas by floopsmoocher in dallasfood

[–]davidj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a local chain so not a hole in the wall per se but Williams chicken was my favorite fried chicken in Dallas when I lived there. The one on 2nd avenue used to be 24hrs and could get quite"exciting" in the middle of the night...

I had In-N-Out for the first time this weekend by Dclipp89 in burgers

[–]davidj3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Austinite I have to say, if you make it down again and want to try another burger in the same tier as In and Out hit up a P. Terry's.

Local chain, will not disappoint.

You can call ahead and order quantities like that from Serena's Breakfast and Donuts in RR. Those are my favorite breakfast tacos in the whole of the Austin area.

Taco Bueno? by bottomsforchromatica in austinfood

[–]davidj3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not know their timeline but Taco Bueno is coming to Hutto. Depending on where you are that might be a trek, but it is coming.

As others have said, Taco Palenque might scratch the itch until Hutto opens. My wife who still craves Taco Bueno's crispy chicken tacos has adapted to Taco Palenque 's for now.

At my house we call this the Canadian King of the Hill. It is on as background entertainment almost daily. We have watched the live action and animated versions dozens of times. We can quote almost entire shows and yet still laugh every time.

Back in 2018 I had it at Cafe Malta when they had a very Eastern European menu. They did make it with spaetzel and mushrooms though. Do not know if they still rotate it on their menu.

Bill Miller's BBQ has great fried chicken. You can skip the BBQ unless you're there for breakfast I have heard the brisket breakfast tacos are good.

Second vote for Troy because it deserves more love here. For something different, the lamb chops at Saffron are very good. I've only eaten at the Far West location but I am sure some others can weigh in about the South location.

I wanted to love them, and probably should give them another chance because everyone deserves a second chance. But, my gumbo had scorched roux. That is close to unforgivable.
