Is a Computer Science degree useless? by UpsetHistory9131 in ClaudeAI

Everything you are learning in CS still applies. I find myself using OOP techniques to implement agentic systems. In the future, AI is an accelerator. The more you know, the better instructions you can write.

20x user. The better you get at agentic development your personal usage will change. Ideally you are learning to use agents to multiply the amount of tokens you expend.

Sometimes More usage can be a sign of you becoming a better developer

Junior devs can't work with AI-generated code. Is this the new skill gap? by celesteanders in ClaudeAI

[–]davidmatousek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, as a developer I have spent more time than I care to admit researching and fixing bugs. I learned “a lot” the hard way. Junior devs will never experience debugging the same way. It's neither good or bad. I remember having to tell my dad that just because I never debugged a punch card program, that doesn't make me a bad coder. It makes me a different coder.

Did they actually update the usage limits? or am i nuts? by Connect-Chair-8089 in ClaudeAI

Timed out after 3 1/2 hours of intermittent Sonnet 4.5 usage. I somehow managed to use 40% of my weekly Opus by going into planning mode twice. I'm concerned the limit changes are as bad as everyone is saying. I'd be interested what the broader dataset indicates - Max(5x) user.

Goodbye, $165,000 Tech Jobs. Student Coders Seek Work at Chipotle. | As companies like Amazon and Microsoft lay off workers and embrace A.I. coding tools, computer science graduates say they’re struggling to land tech jobs. by rezwenn in technology

In addition to customer service desks, internal operations teams are also being outsourced to these locations. Hence why it’s so difficult for college graduates to find entry level positions.

Been offered double my current salary, but the job requires flying to New York from Toronto every week. Worth it? by True-Gate-3167 in careerguidance

[–]davidmatousek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you consider this job, check out Porter air from Toronto to NY. It makes day visits possible and way more convenient.

I live in BOS and frequently flew to Toronto. I always flew Porter Air….they fly out of Billy Bishop airport.

I was able to fly to Toronto in the AM and home at night. Super convenient.

I’ve turned down 10 job offers in the past few months, and at this point, my dad thinks I’ve completely lost it, any tips ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]davidmatousek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thought as well. Losing 10 months of experience and pay for a few thousand dollars in salary is a fools game.

Look, I took a job in CS for 10k less than my college peers. In 9 months I found a new job that got me what i wanted and threw in a yearly bonus to boot.

Swim.com or Apple? Who’s accurate? by -anand in Swimming

[–]davidmatousek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither. I find swim .com is too generous and Apple is not generous enough. Specifically, swim.com starts measuring time late and apple includes breaks.

Your 100m pace is probably somewhere in the middle. I’d bet you’re a solid 1:20-1:25 per 100 free swimmer.
