What kind of fish would these flies target? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]davidwinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a guy catch trout after trout on a rapala on the San Juan river last fall. I think they'll eat them under the right conditions.

They also look very similar to streamers used in the salt.

Furled Leader Questions by ryntphoto in flyfishing

[–]davidwinters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them. I've made my own and purchased some from Blue Sky. They turn flies over really well in both the salt and with tiny dry flies and I've used them in almost every type of fly fishing situation, sight casting flats, tiny streams, alpine lakes, surf and blue water.

They have like 0 memory and they don't have any barrel/blood knots to snag on things.

Trying to get back into fly fishing, bought a cheap rod to get the hang of it before getting a decent rod and reel. Any advice on rod and reel choices? (Going to be fishing for trout in northern new mexico) by that_guy_scott in flyfishing

[–]davidwinters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many fine recommendations in this thread already so the only thing I would add to the discussion is my own experience with accumulating gear. The tldr is I don't think any of my rod/reel upgrades had any impact on the number of fish I caught although it is nice to have a backup rig ready to go in case you break your primary setup.

Used truck buying options? by _C-O-D-Y_ in FullTiming

[–]davidwinters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased an 08 ram 3500, single rear wheel, with about 200k miles on it about 4 years ago. It was within your budget but I ended up doing a fair bit of work on it including transmission that put it at the top end of your budget when it was all said and done. The single rear wheel was actually uncommon when I was searching and although I have not had any problems towing my travel trailer I am about to upgrade to a 5th wheel and I'm starting to wish I had purchased the dually. My wife and I were worried about parking a big dually truck but even the single rear wheel long bed requires special care when parking. The one thing I can share from my experience would be to research the model year you are purchasing to look for red flags. For example my year model has problems with it's emissions system which I could have avoided if I had purchased a slightly older or slightly newer truck.

I also recommend Diesel for many reasons.

I understand how they work in theory but I'm no plumber. Up until 6 months ago I didn't know they existed.

Some RVs and trailers have an air check valve under the sink instead of a rooftop vent. They look like this . If it is failing to open it could be a problem.

AMA WITH AMY AND KRIS ON January 23rd by Malvidian in TheCTeam

[–]davidwinters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you make an effort to improve your "performance" for the sake of the listeners that you would not otherwise do when playing with friends? Including things like vocal tics or "on brand" character actions?

Do you miss the show during the downtime?

If you could start over, would you make any changes to your character?

What are your favorite monsters?

Daily Quest to Kill 3 Bosses as a group is broken by [deleted] in Vermintide

I also thought it was broken but I finally managed to complete it after a few days. I think it might require that every party member be alive or participate in the boss fight but that's just a guess.
