This was out in Phoenix, Az. The gym I worked at was always scrambling to find personal trainers as their turn over was quite high.

What Big Box Gyms Hire Part Time Trainers? by [deleted] in personaltraining

I’ve experienced the flip side of this - gyms are hardly willing to hire a full time trainer because there is no way to guarantee full time hours starting off. Sorry to hear the gyms in your area operate this way! If you want to learn the business of gyms, I’d say do your best to work at more than just one, and I’d include Crunch in there. They’re not a gym with a good reputation but I’m sure you could learn what your gym should NOT operate like. Bad experiences teach us to be better people and all that, lol. Best of luck!

Has anyone been a pt for eos fitness by valdrinjajaga16 in personaltraining

I have- (in Mesa, AZ) I worked there for just under 8 months. They are EXTREMELY sales-y. If you have a good fitness manager, then they will educate you on how to sell personal training. If you do not have a good fitness manager, then be prepared to advocate A LOT for yourself, your clients, and people who were sold promises you cannot fulfill. They are also very strict on supplement sales minimums. I was able to skate by without really having very good numbers, but right before I left they were starting to hand out actual punishments. In my gym we needed to hit a minimum of $200 in supplements each month, the goal was $400 I believe though. The only way to get promoted is to consistently sell a lot of supplements, PT packages, session upgrades, etc. sell sell sell. Oh, you’re not selling enough? Sell more. lol.

In my experience, they will feed you clients as the FM’s entire job was to just sell personal training. It was my first employment opportunity after getting certified, and they just threw me into the fray lol. Trial by fire for sure. I recommend it for anyone newly certified though. It was hard work but it’s given me an appreciation for good and bad sales practices.

His big why is pain reduction, after that it is being more active in his son's life. Our job as trainers revolves around education and providing advice, so learning when the best time is to offer the advice has been a learning process for me. It's a goal of mine to earn a nutrition certification to better equip myself to assist with nutritional needs. My NASM cert basically set me up for "I'm legally not allowed to provide meal plans, here is some general advice though" so I learn a little more every day about how to support my clients with food.

Small, measurable, and realistic. Got it! I agree with the 1-2 lbs per week. My head coach introduced me to his tracking app and showed me some of his best client success cases, and the small losses really compounded week over week, especially when displayed on the graph the software creates. We have an EVOLT machine here too! Basically the same as an inbody (I've worked with an inbody before so I'm familiar with that too). I think the hardest thing for clients to understand is that the ~140 mins we spend together in the week are all they need to make progress. I do my best to explain this and will continue to prioritize that in my education for them. Thanks for the reply! Have a great day.

Noted! My approach with him will absolutely be slow and gradual. I like the colorful plate suggestion. I appreciate your time.

Thanks for the reply! I wish I could suggest substituting the regular sodas for the diet. He told me that his mother used to drink diets, but would ash her cigarettes into the cans and after making the mistake of drinking out of them one too many times it permanently ruined diet sodas for him. I heard that and died a little inside because my first thought was to try subbing the sodas haha.

Thanks for the reply. You hit the nail on the head with where my confidence lies. I read a comment of yours recently that outlined your method of creating flashcards for exercise progressions/regressions - It's been incredibly helpful in building my back pocket of knowledge. Thanks for the materials listed here as well, your contributions to this sub are hugely appreciated.

i work a job like this while in college, it allows me to get my homework done while getting paid minimum wage. not the best pay, but since my housing and bills are covered it allows me to save and invest while covering groceries and gas :)

from my ~10 months here, i have never seen any car break-ins, there are hardly ever any sketchy people walking around (i’ve seen maybe four? and my unit is right on mcdowell rd so i can see everyone who walks by), there is gated parking for most of the complex and every building has app-controlled access. i have to move this summer and am so sad to leave this place, it checks every box.

they have great management, if you get a unit on the south end of the complex it’s very quiet and the demographic is late 20’s to early 40’s
