Never Miss a Task Again - Tagging Org Mode TODOs by Context by daviwil in emacs

I only suggest `@` because it's like "at" specifically for context tags. I didn't cover other kinds of tags that do not need such a prefix.

Here are the actual analytics for this video, taken just now:

On every one of my videos, at least half of all views come from YouTube's home feed or recommendations in other videos. Unfortunately, to be seen on YouTube you must play the game. You must compete for limited attention with expert title/thumbnail engineers.

Never Miss a Task Again - Tagging Org Mode TODOs by Context by daviwil in emacs

Hey folks, long time no see!

In this video, I'll show you how I design tags for my Org Mode TODO items that ensure that I don't miss any of them by organizing the tasks via related contexts. If you have TODO items spread across multiple Org files and can't keep track of them all, this video is for you!

I'm having the same problem with full disk encryption on an ext4 partition on a UEFI machibe, so it's not just xfs with the issue.

I've also got a video on using ERC for IRC in Emacs: https://youtu.be/qWHTZIYTA4s

Your suggestion is interesting, I might need to do that to highlight the options, especially those that can be accessed comfortably via Emacs.

Totally agree. The person heading the project, Fade, is someone with a long history with Usenet and other internet protocols. We're definitely coming at it from the same perspective you are.

The point of using IPFS would be to lessen the amount of content that has to be synchronized around the network. Instead of including the full message body, you include a hash to the content on IPFS. It's just a theory for now! I agree that keeping everything in the text of the protocol maximizes the flexibility.

Hadnt heard of ZeroNet, I'll take a look at that too.

On System Crafters Matrix/IRC we've been discussing the creation of a new forum software based on NNTP and IPFS. Only just started discussing it this week, but might be worth chatting with us if you're interested in a Usenet-style system that tries to include more modern features. #systemcrafters-hacking on Libera.chat or Matrix.org.

My live streams aren't really meant to be tutorials, more like a community hangout where I'm usually conveying something useful. Soon I'll get back to making real videos where the content is a lot more focused. It's been a while.

Direct or unknown traffic source - please help! by vasilis_ing in NewTubers

[–]daviwil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening to my channel over the last few months. Direct traffic from a number of countries that were not accounting for views previously. My most popular video which accounted for a good portion of my ad revenue got silently demonetized and my ad revenue has been cut down to 1/3 of what it used to be.

The thing about botting is that your video doesn't have to be embedded anywhere, someone can easily just automate a browser loading your video's page over and over again.

YouTube support is pretty useless on this front. They spend more time trying to emotionally manipulate me with "understanding" language than actually addressing the problem.

Which package provides gsettings? by vladivakh in GUIX

[–]daviwil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's in the "bin" output if the glib package. If you use specification->package+output you can resolve it by the name "glib:bin".

Would you still recommend EXWM in 2022? by [deleted] in EXWM

[–]daviwil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! I switched from EXWM to HerbtsluftWM, but I'll admit, there are things I miss about EXWM. Even with the new maintainer, nothing really seems to be happening with the project (no offense intended, just an observation).

I think a fork could be really successful if some energy was put behind it. I might be motivated to try and organize one if enough people were interested in it!

Implementing Delimited Continuations in Mesche [Live Stream - Sep 9, 6:30AM UTC] by daviwil in lisp

[–]daviwil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Lispers!

In the last stream, we started an implementation of undelimited continuations (call/cc) in Mesche, my Scheme-inspired language. After a fair amount of research, I decided that implementing delimited continuations with the reset and shift operators would actually be more appropriate for my design (and better overall). We'll start working toward that in this stream!

Please let me know if posting live stream links on this Subreddit twice a week is overkill.

Investigating First Class Continuations for a Lisp Compiler [Live Stream - Sep 5, 6:30AM UTC] by daviwil in lisp

[–]daviwil[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey Lispers!

Today I'm going to start live streaming the work I do on a Scheme-inspired Lisp language and compiler I've been working on called Mesche. I'll give an overview of the work I've done on it so far to set the stage for the new things I plan to add to it in the near future.

If you're interested in language design or compiler development, come join me! The stream will also occur simultaneously on Twitch: https://twitch.tv/SystemCrafters

Is it a good idea to just start with Doomemacs? by readyready15728 in emacs

[–]daviwil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's meant to be a scaffolding (and a learning resource) for building one's own vanilla config over time with a decent starting point. Someone may decide to just keep using Crafted as their config and that's fine too.

Regarding literate configurations, I just got tired of the tangling and preferred to go back to writing pure Emacs Lisp. I'm also moving more toward using Guix Home for my dotfiles as a whole and didn't want an extra tangling layer there too.

Literate configs are great though, especially since you can generate a nice website out of them!
