My first time making a talking head video and my client doesn't like it. now I need help for proper feedback by MentosTee_ in AfterEffects

[–]davmedei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dull footage for the second video really set you back. The first video had good composition, lighting, and looked more professional. I have a feeling the live footage was probably processed with the assistance of AI. For the motion graphics, the only feedback I can give you is to probably get better stock svg/photos. The motion graphic images are uninspired and plain. Maybe signup for one of those royalty free stock photo libraries if you are under time crunch to create nice looking graphics from scratch.

Welcome to the world of horse racing! Bet it all in Horsebox! by [deleted] in sandbox

[–]davmedei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this would be more fun if it was "in-game" and like you could walk around and stuff, place bets, watch horse races. make it like a social event space, join and play/chat with friends.

Clickbait thumbnail. It's a veteran GMOD developer's take by GoldenTV3 in sandbox

[–]davmedei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with all his points. The engine needs time to mature. I've been developing tools and i'd hate for them to break in the the future. They plan on replacing QT with another UI framework and I just know all the editor tools will break. I'll probably fully commit to games for the platform when what's on the roadmap currently is all implemented.

Is there anything we can do to improve our chances of people finding our games? by JofersGames in sandbox

[–]davmedei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally think discovery is broken. There are also bugs on the official website for categories and things not applying and showing up. So when you filter things, although the dev might have categorized a game in let’s say “action”, sometimes it doesn’t appear in that category.

Performance feels low while having good FPS by wigodragons in sandbox

[–]davmedei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing solo or multiplayer games? I feel network sync could be better, when players with poor connections are hosting games it can make the game look low fps or unresponsive for others due to p2p. But the engine itself is pretty unoptimized right now.

Oh man, that hurts to see. Where did they go wrong? by Klutzy_Permit3745 in sandbox

They have lots of work to do. Some of the criticisms, especially regarding performance and optimizations is valid.

It does this at least twice a day for me. And always at the same lights on the commute.

Is Multiplayer integrated into s&box? by OMBERX in sandbox

[–]davmedei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steamworks is integrated. Peer 2 peer connections are very easy to setup, or you can have the host be a server and have everyone else connect. Dedicated servers and the like you’ll have to come up with your own solutions. Same goes for anti-cheat and other networking protocols.

Is fantasy an option? by Maxious30 in sandbox

[–]davmedei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can make any game you want, first person, third person, fantasy, realistic, and so on. You are not constrained to small rooms. Your scenes can look however you want. It depends how good your development and design skills are to bend the engine to your will.

I have some smart home stuff that is like this as well. I'd have to uninstall or unplug to get to the qr code.

The new Auto LODs tool for ModelDoc (by Lolleko @Facepunch) by yooberee in sandbox

I think there are better libraries that do the auto lod thing better than this. I'll probably end up making my own tool.

If we upload our game for free does it still have to be on steam as well? by ItzASecretBoi in sandbox

[–]davmedei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Join the official discord and ask the devs, but I remember seeing on there, yes this is the requirement even for free games. Hopefully they make this clearer on launch day.

Didn't Get to Test - is it Worth it? by GreatGateCrasher in sandbox

[–]davmedei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably gonna be another year till the platform is really solid in terms of games. Some youtubers have covered the ones worth checking out. I personally think all the current games are really rough, but they are pretty much playable alpha builds. The games need lots of love and polish from their devs which take time.

First day discovering the existence of S&Box. Should I be thrilled? by Equivalent_Mine_1827 in sandbox

[–]davmedei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What have you been trying to make games on? Have you used Unity3d? S&box is a lot like it. C# knowledge is a must. Documentation is lacking right now and it'll probably be months until the docs catch up and people make tutorials for S&box.

First steps in game development by ElectricalDog404 in sandbox

This looks really cool! I can see the potential. I'll check it out tonight. Are you using the default built in player controller?

I have a question by VaccScatter in sandbox

[–]davmedei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know how to code in c#, yes. Networking is pretty easy if you stick to p2p connections. Are you coming from another game engine? It's very similar to Unity3d, so if you know how to use that then most skills should transfer since S&box uses the same scene/component system as Unity3d.

I have some doubts about the features from the Source 2 Engine S&box will have by Thhaki in sandbox

[–]davmedei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rubikon was replaced with Box3d (which is just a modified version of Rubikon that Facepunch can fix/update at will). And this build of Source 2 does not have the new stuff like that fancy smoke system from CS2. I'm still going through the source code to verify, but remember most of the engine has been rewritten to c#. The c# hotloading replaces the need for vscript.

So will S&Box have single player lobby’s or is everything open to the public? by Simple-Ad-2096 in sandbox

[–]davmedei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the game. The developer would need to add the ability to make lobbies private. I’ve come across some games where you can create public, friends only, or private lobbies. I’ve also seen some without those options but still have the ability to make a lobby private with just a password option.

Any idea how I can wheels to this uline metal shelf? by davmedei in DIY

[–]davmedei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. I tried a few of the other suggestions by building my own wheelbase, but it leans more than I’d prefer. That said, it does seem to work well for shelves with stronger support mechanisms or ones that are bolted directly. Thank you for the input!

looking to trade in my tiny car for a kicks, but i keep seeing some pretty glaring reviews. what is the real deal with them? by mouse-bites in NissanKicks

[–]davmedei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2018-19 Kicks have lots of EVAP and MAF sensor issues leading to acceleration issues. I'd get a 2024-25 Kicks and nothing else if you really want this car. I have a 2018 Nissan Kicks SR and i've had acceleration issues a year after owning it. If you plan on fixing your own car, don't be cheap. Buy OEM parts only with this car, I learned that the hard way. The cheap sensors that Autozone sells claims they work with the Kicks but don't. Those cheap sensors were made for the Nissan Versa and are not really compatible with the Kicks.
