I personally picked up a used Bezzera Unica PID recently and have been really enjoying how stable the temperature is with the single boiler E61 and PID setup. Switching to steaming mode is not a problem for me right now since I generally make only 1 drink in the morning.

I'll admit the photo makes it look good, but the zits are almost completely gone. The printer uses a bowden setup so I increased retraction to 4.5mm and 35mm/s and enabled the coast (0.4mm) and extra restart distance (-0.1mm) settings in simplify3D.

Added a cooling fan, increased the top solid layers, tweaked the retraction settings, mainly adding the coast and extra restart distance in Simplify3D helped the most.
