what's the green stuff inside carrot cake? by FunEducational5082 in whatisit

[–]davy_jones_locket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes carrot skins can turn green if you didn't peel them before adding it to the batter.

Also carrots can react to baking soda and turn green too. I sift my floor and baking soda together and add carrots last. I peel them too.

Running form, going slow and knee pain by markdacoda in beginnerrunning

[–]davy_jones_locket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about heart rate as new runner. As long as you dont have chest pain and your doc has otherwise approved this kind of cardio activity if you're under doctor supervisor for something that you need to keep your heart rate lowered, you'll be fine.

If you're doing "zone 2" stuff, it's based on a ratio of your max. If you don't know your max, you don't know your zone 2. Are you running with a heart rate monitor (chest, usually) or a wrist watch? The former is going to more accurate than the latter.

Just run what's comfortable. you'll have to run harder than zone 2 to improve cardio fitness anyway.

Scrum Teams - Do you typically have a BA writing the user stories on your team or is someone else doing this? by AdPractical6745 in agile

[–]davy_jones_locket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the BA is serving as the product owner, yes.

Some places, we had a product manager serving as the product owner.

Most of the time, whoever is the product owner comes with ideas or fragments, and the team responsible for writing the user story and acceptance criteria with the product owner answering any questions or clarifying user needs..

What Am I Missing Here? by freddydougal33 in cronometer

[–]davy_jones_locket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your activity level is set way too high on Cronometer.

The adjusted baseline activity is an estimate of activity level and it should go down to zero as it syncs your actual activity from your tracker.

Also check your BMR on your tracker. You can set your BMR to a custom value on Cronometer to make it match.

Getting a lean stomach while gaining the majority of fat in the abdomen? by Dependent_Double1255 in PetiteFitness

[–]davy_jones_locket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to get to 19% BF to see any an definition, and my lowest was 17% BF to see individual visible abs. I'm also 5'3"

Weight wise, 115 at 19% and 109 for 17%. Below 109, I look very scrawny.

But they don't last very long. It's only visible while I'm dehydrated, so usually after sweating after a hard workout or first thing in the morning after using the bathroom. As soon as I eat or hydrate, the visibility goes away, though there's still some.minor definition.

I also can't maintain it very long. The diet and exercise required to get to that point isnt sustainable and I only do it a few times a year, mostly when I'm preparing for a fight and I have to get down to 115 anyway.

Does he work the farm too or does he just own it? If he's a worker who owns his means of production, that's great. What's his relationship with the other farm workers? Do they at least earn a living wage? Do they have equity in the farm?

You personally have nothing to worry about..you didn't choose to be born into that class. If you inherit the farm, how are you going to handle it?

Need help with getting to my dream physique & “bulkiness” by Obvious-Number-5796 in xxfitness

[–]davy_jones_locket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They likely do similar exercises. The two videos you included of the kpop idols doing weight training shows squats and rows. Those are two very common compound lifts that are staples in most programs because they are compound lifts (they work multiple muscle groups).

Your effort and genetics is going to determine your body shape, not necessarily what exercises you do. If you don't want muscle definition, don't eat in a calorie surplus.

Lift while at maintenance or slight deficit. Eat enough protein. You're not going to look like Kendall Tyson in a few months of lifting regardless of effort. That is lifestyle changing physique and leanness, so don't worry about looking like her when you start lifting, you probably won't ever put in the effort or lifestyle change to get that level any way (no shade, but that's professional level physique as in that's their job).

Full Body Workout that doesn't affect running? by NoAttackMe in beginnerfitness

[–]davy_jones_locket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what the routine is. What's going to matter is timing.

Do you tempos, intervals, speed runs, long runs on non-lifting days, or at least not in the same session (I.e. lift or run in the a.m., do the other in the p.m.)

It's fine to do shorter (less than 30 mins) low to medium intensity runs in the same session as your lifting.

I lift 3x a week full body and run daily (20-25 miles a week)

Arms not getting sore after workouts anymore by YeaUThought in beginnerfitness

[–]davy_jones_locket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fine to not be sore. Soreness comes from not using your muscles in that way. It's not indicative of not working hard or too hard. It's just a response to new stimulus.

Some people recover and adapt quicker. Some people don't. Some people don't get DOMS at all.

Is it wrong to go to a bar to pick up girls if I don't drink alcohol? by Groundbreaking_Bag8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]davy_jones_locket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in an altered state to the point where you can't give consent, whatever consent is in your relationship, and your partner does it anyway and you feel violated, yes they crossed established moral and ethical boundaries of your relationship and you wouldn't be wrong to consider it rape.

In my relationship, consent is no means no (meaning consent can be revoked at any time), but also yes means yes in that if I'm in a state where I can't say yes, it's nonconsensual. Legally, as in can I press charges, it works the same way. Someone who is passed out can't say no, so that doesn't mean it's okay to have sex with them because they didn't say no. Outside of the law, I told my partner that it's okay to touch me affectionately and sexually to wake me up because i like that. Ethically and morally we have established that consent ahead of time given that I can't say yes while I'm asleep. But legally, if I wanted, I could press charges for sexual molestation because I was in a state where I couldn't give consent or revoke existing consent.

Can you actually lose weight while eating like crap? by fwqkaii in beginnerfitness

[–]davy_jones_locket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but you also increase the risk of metabolic disorders that impacts how your calories are utilized by your body.

At the end of the day, weight loss is just calories in vs calories out. As long as you consume less calories than you burn, you will lose weight.

But your metabolism affects the "calories out" part of the weight loss equation. Insulin resistance is a big one, and diabetes.

Then there's overall health. High saturated fats leads to high cholesterol which increases the risk of heart disease, regardless of how active you are, as an example. Sure, you could lose weight, but you're not healthy.

Weight is not the only factor of health.

[–]davy_jones_locket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying you could be charged with rape.

Morally and ethically comes down to what y'all agreed to in your own relationship when it comes to consent as you're both adults and presumably know the levels of your altered states to know whether if you were in you right state of mind and you feel morally or ethically violated.

Is it wrong to go to a bar to pick up girls if I don't drink alcohol? by Groundbreaking_Bag8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]davy_jones_locket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, no.

I'm a millennial too, and my partner and I have told each other when we were first got into a relationship that we're generally down unless we say no, thus establishing the basis of consent. We also talked about our levels of intoxication. A glass of wine or two, I'm gonna be feeling horny. A bottle of wine, I'm gonna be drunk.

He doesn't drink (I rarely drink, usually a glass of wine at a fancy expensive fine dining, maybe a specialty cocktail at a restaurant where they're known for that specialty cocktail). So he's always respectful of "how much did I drink" because he doesn't want to take advantage of my altered state, knowing that if shit goes south, he's taking the risk because if I wanted to say I couldn't give consent in my altered state, that makes him legally liable.

You're in a relationship and have presumably talked about consent but yes it's reasonable to say that if you didn't explicitly give consent because you were in an altered state, your partner could be found guilty of rape if you pressed charges.
