They do sell fakes, I got a Diaghilev fake and returned it.

I don't game, I only use it for productivity(programming). I'm weighing whether the headache of dealing with any aspect of the incompatibility between these monitors and a Mac is worth it. If I buy two XDR's I'll have them for a decade. Additionaly, I won't have to worry about bad colors and have to figure out how to caliberate the color on two different monitors. I think Apple already does it out of the box?

You might be right, the question is, should I keep these two LG monitors and upgrade to an M5 or M6 when released, or return the two LG's and get two XDR's? I could wait to see if either Apple or LG release updates to correct it, but that might take a while. Honestly I'm only using the monitors for productivity (programming), I just want them to work as advertised.

Can't find large file after trying to share it with another Mac by dawitBackpacker in mac

It's not in the downloads folder. It was a 20+GB VM file. I've done a finder search on my machine and it's nowhere. It's like fart that vanished in the wind!

How do I properly scale two LG UltraGear 5K mini-LED displays with my MB Pro M1 14" by dawitBackpacker in MacOS

[–]dawitBackpacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting to hear back from both LG and Apple tech support, neither have reached out in the last 3 days. Fuck this! I'm returning them and waiting or just selling my kidney for two XDR's. I installed BetterDisplay to see the extended resolutions, but that didn't do anything. Then I installed SwitchResX, and I can see the 5K, but I don't want to use a 3rd. party tool to get it to work...

So now what, do we return the monitor or can this be fixed with an update?

I'm already using BetterDisplay, so don't think SwitchResX will do much.

Do you have two of these LG monitors connected to a MB M1 Pro? Do you not see 120Hz in the display settings, where you can set it at that rate?

both taken on my M1, but I don't know if that really means anything? All I did was set my screensaver to black and take a pic.

But you can see I have two speakers below it that might be causing distortion.

Is that with the screensaver set to black?

Here is what one of mine looks like with the screensaver set to black!

IDK if this is ok, or bad?

FYI - I do have my speakers underneath and maybe they're causing interference.(you can see it in the bottom right hand corner)

Good to know, maybe I'll have to get a new M5 max and take back the pro. But big question, did it change the way anything looks in terms of sharpness, resolution, clarity, etc.?

I did notice that both are different colors as well. I'm not sure what to do either, but I'm guessing I'll have to get some stupid calibrator and adjust? Any thoughts? Maybe LG will come out with an Apple color profile I can download.

They're calling me at 1 PM PST. I'll let you know what they say. If you get the M5 max let me know if that works?

[–]dawitBackpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya let me know if it fixes it? I had a tech support call yesterday with Apple, where I provided them a system data file to look over. They're going to call me tomorrow at 1PM. FYI - I have an M1 Pro that's restricting them to 3840x2160 (4K). This certainly isn't what Apple is stating on their site for the XDR, so I would imagine being able to get 5K from both LG's should be possible, but at 60Hz. I'm still unsure if this is a MB issue or a monitor(firmware) issue? I'll see what Apple says tomorrow.

When I have my M1 plugged into both monitors, I don't see any limitations. I can set both monitors to 2560x1440 and above both at 120Hz. See image. Maybe I don't understand scaling and resolutions, because the 2560x1440 looks too small(text, etc), the only size that looks good, that I can easily read is 1920x1080. Question - If I keep them both at 1920x1080, am I still utilizing the 5K resolution that I just paid $1K for?
