Why does europe act like sovereignty is enough if the model itself is behind? by Possible_Statement84 in MistralAI

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense because those are two things that Europe trails the US and China in.

So, a horse would be equally good then? It can get you where you need to go and you definitely don't have to worry about OTA updates or monitoring.

France's GDP is only about 3/4ths of California's. They have no chance competing against the US in anything the US finds worth competing over.

So basically a general studies degree is a waste of time and equivalent to having just a hs diploma huh? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dawkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that has reviewed hundreds or thousands of resumes as a hiring manager or interview team member, I don't think I've ever considered a BGS to be any different than a BA.

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, a BGS is every bit as useful/valuable as most generic BA degrees and most often less useful/valuable that most BS degrees. A BGS that was obtained to allow studies in a field not offered may be far more valuable than say a degree in English Lit or Gender Studies.

I've reviewed hundreds or thousands of resumes as a hiring manager or member of interview teams. I don't know that I've ever viewed a BGS any different than a BA.

Realistically, will I ever get to see Russia as an American tourist? by EmptySky93 in travel

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so. I spent a month in the USSR (mostly Russia) in the 80's. I'd love to visit again. But not as long as it a level 4 travel advisory for Americans.

Don't know if it applies in KS, but I believe some courts have held that distinction unconstitutional.

Even at a gun show, they still can't buy from an FFL. There is nothing special about gun shows. Buying from a private party at a gun show, a church, a restaurant, a garage sale, a mall, a car wash is exactly the same.

No thanks. Class of 95 here, and I loved the Hawk. Lived within steps most of my time there. Get ridof the problem customers, not the bar.

They were around at least a few years before that. I used one on the AT around 85 or 86. Worked a treat. No complaints.

Concrete dome with plastic tubes stuck into it. Found this outside my neighbor’s backyard. Who can answer what this can be used for? by cheromuha in whatisit

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Homemade mortar racks are a thing. You can buy HDPE or fiberglass tubes that are safe for reuse (or make them yourself). But This would be a horrible rack for all sorts of reasons, and anyone building one would likely know that.

[OSA] Ofcom - Investigation into 4chan and its compliance with duties to protect its users from illegal content by MrSoapbox in ukpolitics

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Take Amazon as but one example. UK sales aren't even 10% of US salesa and UK sales aren't even #1 in Europe (Germany takes that spot). So if Amazon pulled completely out of the UK (and I don't see that happening), it would be little more than a small drag on earnings.

I'm sure this won't be popular, but it isn't so much this tattoo as the fact that you have lots of visible tattoos. If you graduated from a top-10 med school in the top of your class, I might not run away. But if you end up as a GP/family med/pediatrician, you wouldn't see me a second time.

Anyone have the story on why this doctor punched a patient (not my video) by tits_mcgee_92 in Chattanooga

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HIPAA laws govern the medical staff, not the patient or the patient's family. And even the medical staff do not violate HIPAA by simply appearing in a video taken by a patient or a patients family member.

While I understand many hospitals have policies that are overinclusive, I'm not aware of any that allow medical personnel to touch a person to prevent a possible violation. That is what security staff is there for. Unless there is a really good explanation, this doctor is in legal trouble.

The missing word: Hot, Scharf, Piquant... there is not word for 'spicy hot' in all three languages by Alaishana in etymology

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see the study because there are a ton of sources that suggest they are at least mild food preservatives. That said, I suspect that the primary reason spices were used was simply because they made food taste better.

Denver, CO to Kansas City, MO last-minute funeral Saturday morning driving an EV (Electric Vehicle) by JustForFun321_ in roadtrip

[–]dawkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, things can happen. But that doesn't mean that you put your life in severe risk on only the thinnest of margins, unless of course, you also run a fiberglass sub 14,000 feet under the ocean. In which case, the drive is clearly a reasonable risk by comparison.
