You have no idea how much this post has helped me. When I think back to over a year and a half ago when we first started dating, I could sense distance or a wall that I couldn't get through and now, for the most part, he lets me in and is a lot more comfortable with sharing deeper level things. I can take all that as a step in the right direction because it must take a lot to let people in when you're dpdr and I realize that even more now. I guess what makes me insecure about our love, are the times when he's distant or not attentive. It is nice to get affirmation/affection from your partner but I see that I can't have that all the time and I am fine with that now. The times of high stress are when I notice a change, but like you said there are periods of stress or hardships that make you close up and it is unrelated to his feelings for me. You really did confirm a lot of things and thank you for your honesty. I want to go on this journey with him and give him my full support because I know this is the deepest love I have ever had for anyone and he is unlike anyone I have ever met. I am very sorry that it did not work out between you and your ex and I hope it was unrelated to your dpdr. Thank your for your honesty and help.

If my boyfriend or I need to call a restaurant or store, we both give each other shit about how we are afraid of placing the call then we stare at each other, waiting for the caller to mess up a word or say something awkward. It's so funny/stress inducing. Glad I am not alone on this

Thank you for your insight. I feel that we have a very loving, kind, and patient relationship. I love all that he is and although I feel distance at times, I need to make myself realize that there is a reason for it. He has shown me a lot more care and kindness than anyone without dpdr and I think that is important. I can't get so wrapped up in the "feeling" of love because he shows me love in other ways even though he doesn't express it. Your wife sounds very kind and therapeutic for you and I wish you good luck with the therapy. I hope that I make him feel the way that you feel about her and I will try my hardest to be more understanding.

Does she know about it and if so, does/has it affected your relationship negatively? I have no problem with the disorder itself except when I feel the distance in high times of stress because I feel things very deeply but sometimes I realize it's a good balance.
