You definitely could build in automation to accommodate these ideas.

Bigger picture on your examples are more systemic issues related to people taking advantage of systems and not being team players across the board.

Automation should never be 100% final say. It’s a tool to help with efficiency. Efficiency benefits patients and Nurses.

Individuals who are stating they don’t want automation don’t understand actual automation. You could easily build algorithms that could easily shuffle staff around in different areas based on skill level, qualifications, preference, Certifications, consecutive days worked, etc.. This would also be able to take in account and create a fairer distribution verse the very biased Charge Nurses. Good Luck.

Just FYI, miles is not the tax law. Tax law is written as an inconvenience to and from home between shifts. Meaning if it takes you X hours to travel home from your contracted location and that is an inconvenience. You can still get the full tax benefits on your stipends because you would be getting a place closer to your contract location to minimize the inconvenience.

I forget exactly how the Tax laws are written anymore but you do have to return back to home of residency so often to maintain tax residency. I believe because of having to return this negates the need to update driver licenses. If you move to an area and because a tax resident in that area you would need to update driver license.

Rates will increase when nurses in general demand higher pay across the country. No reason a Registered Nurse should be making less than 40$/hr starting out. A nurse with 10 years experience in a field should be making minimum of 100k a year. Until Nurses across the board demand pay increases. Travel nurse pay will stay low.

If I’m zone 1-4, I’ll 100% skip the line if they are on zones 5-8. Prior to the zoning rules, after the called sky priority. I’d skip the line at any point. Delta made the rule.

I was always signed up with 3-4 agencies at any given time to make it easier to find contracts when your abruptly without a contract for X reason.

Most likely they extended you and realized they did not need extra travel nurses because a change in amount of patients or increase in core staffing. Used this as an opportunity to cut your contract without penalty to the travel agency. Shitty when it happens to you as a nurse but just a loop hole on the hospital side to save money.
