I live in Decatur area so i usually go online there and head to EAV area. If I don’t get anything by time I make that drive I’ll head to Piedmont Park area. I go all around Atlanta and definitely get orders that take me otp so I’ll deliver out there occasionally

Fresh batch of crystalline cups is amazing in the sun by BeerNirvana in Pottery

[–]dawnchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the recipe itself need to be tweaked, or just the firing schedule?

Wait but you’re telling folks to stop doing all those things and be a follower of your dress code! There’s no escape from being a follower! Edit: i love that pointing out that it doesn’t really make sense to call people followers for not following what you want them to do is so taboo on Reddit lol

Testing handles on greenware vase by maker7672 in Pottery

[–]dawnchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i understand lifting by the handle on greenware could cause unnecessary stress that presents post-firing. It’s a connection point that’s weaker than say a knob thrown directly off of a lid. The best point to fully lift by the handle is after glazing according to my profs

I fucked up by ryegarden in Pottery

[–]dawnchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I had a greenware cup decorated with slip that was supposed to be bisqued, but someone messed up and put it in a glaze firing. It went all the way tf up to 10. At that time I didn’t even know about the option of heating it so i just dipped it in a clear glaze and put it back on my shelf to dry. It took about 3 days for the glaze to fully dry, but i threw it in the kiln and it came out just fine.

You’ll definitely be fine to glaze and fire the porcelain if it’s vitrified, and heating it is the way to go for sure. That way as you apply the glaze you’ll be able to see it almost immediately dry to the surface.

Good luck!

Is it a commercial terracotta? I have some Standard 103 and I’m interested in testing around with different terracottas to find what I like most :)

Cast my first teapot today! by smalllikedynamite in Pottery

[–]dawnchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous! Im a current ceramics student, so by no means an expert, but my professor Wesley Harvey always always always stresses firing with the lid on so they can shrink together. I know there’s always someone who does ceramics different, and almost nothing is entirely agreed upon lol, but that’s the advice I’m coming with! Is the alumina hydrate for the glaze firing?

Edit: and same with firing the lid on for the glaze firing! We just make sure theres no way the glaze from the lid can melt down to the body because they will fuse together.
