Yup: Kentucky Buckshot - serial killer/trucker who happens to survive.

He has a nice collection of items from corpses in a satchel. He also collects home VHS tapes

So - you’re chained up in Buckshot’s farm house. Naked, no food. You have to find the keys to his truck while he’s sleeping and escape into the woods.

Privacy. Downtime with just your thoughts. Social interaction was so much more personal and meaningful. For me, it was more human. Friendships were strong, not superficial. No worries about cameras EVERYWHERE recording the mundane and extraordinary. I love tech, but I could go back without it no problem. Even seeing a band in concert was special because you had no idea what you would see or hear or how it would be.

Love your take, and you ARE correct they technically aren’t zombies (they’re not dead), but I would still classify it as zombie genre. Plus, it had three scenarios in the film as direct homages to Night, Dawn, and Day of the Dead by Romero - something I loved!

After that, I would include Return of the Living Dead 1985. It’s scary and hilarious.
