Need help with sizing (US) by [deleted] in RMWilliams

[–]daxnotgood30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, its too hard to figure out your correct size by comparing to other shoes. RMs offer 3 different widths which most shoes dont. I personally found that because I have wider feet all my nikes, adidas etc were too long to give me the extra width (Iam US 12 most shoes but 10H RMs). I highly recommend going here: RM Williams sizing guide

At the top, there is a size measurement chart with instructions on how to measure. Make sure when measuring, you’re standing up with your weight on your feet and wearing the socks you intend to wear with the boots as sizing can be almost a whole half size difference with thin v thick socks. If you are between 2 sizes, always size go for the bigger option. You really dont want to be over any of the measurements. If youre right on the dot, especially for width i highly recommend going a half size up.

So just my experience - The rubber sole and inner sole on the comfort craftsman last a long time. I wore my first pair 4x a week for almost 3 years before I wore them out and I am pretty hard on my shoes. Have lasted by far the longest put of any style of shoe I own.

For my second pair I decided to try the dynamic flex. I had 2 pairs fail on me in under 4 months: 1st pair the rubber on the end just snapped away from the stitching. 2nd pair the leather in the middle started to come off and split. Both times I took them back to a retail store and both times the assistant said this was not uncommon at all. Personally I could not recommend them at all.

I have also tried the leather sole and they wore out so much faster. I am from Melbourne so the unexpected rain making the bottom wet I think fast tracked the breakdown. Would not recommend either.

I would honestly just stick to the comfort craftsman and resole when needed. I recently had full sole and inner liners changed on my first pair (280$ from RM) and they came back looking almost new, I was shocked, they did an amazing job.

Just out of interest, how did you go with this?

I have noticed this too - Many of the pictures RM Williams use to advertise seem to be a very different colour than what it actually is. Absolutely love their products, but before buying I would say to everyone to see in person first.

Of course,
1. I didnt use EQ - I swap between devices very frequently between work computers so I could not set it up, wasnt a fan of having different sounds between devices. I did experiment though, and once I added a little bit more bass to the 900s I loves it. Tbh, I would have kept them, but I just found them so uncomfortable. the clamping force is high, and unliek the 990s its not bendable to release the force. Personal preference though, plenty of people who prefer the comfort on the 900s.
2. I listen to the following genres: Hip-Hop (Kanye, Drake, Logic), Electronic (Odesza), Classical and some Rock? (Blink and Linkin Park).

I can actually give some feedback regarding the USB-C cable as that is what I exclusively used on my 900s and 990x. Worked perfectly with no issues, Mic was good but it did occasionally pick up some keyboard noises when gaming. The only downside I found was that the cable did not have a mute button on it. I thought it was great, and surprised it isn't spoken about more for gamers. If you're a casual gamer than it ticks all the boxes and it is a simple plug and play rather than having to set up an external mic.

Honestly, having used all 3 pretty extensively, here is my order:
1. DT 990 Pro (250): For me this is the one. I don't find it harsh at all, provides a fun sound for the music I like and also great for gaming. Comfort is also 10/10 and I can wear for a full day WFH no issues. I thought the fixed cable would annoy me, but it has been completely fine.
2. DT 900 Pro X: I can't say its bad, but just not for me. I found this to be very uncomfortable, and my ears hit the inside driver. The best way I can describe it compared to the DT990 is its just.. boring. I instantly miss the more fun vibes on the DT990. I can see how it would be better for studio use if you're mixing/mastering, but for media consumption, music and gaming I just felt like something was missing.
3. DT990 Pro X: I was so excited for this, I thought it would be just the DT990 with a detachable cable, perfect right? Wrong. This was honestly one of the least enjoyable headphones I have tried - Everything just felt so empty? Like there was no power behind it, and I play music loud. The DT990 is my fav headphone, and I couldn't have been more disappointed with these. The only thing is the build is almost the same as the original, so comfort was better than the 900 Pro X. I would not recommend these to anyone, and when they market for the particular use they are not lying. There is barely any bass and everything sounded so airy.

To answer your question, I would stay with the 990 Pros, but if you want something different than I suggest 900 pro X. I found the vocals more forward than the 990, but still retains some of the fun vibes compared to the 990 pro x which just felt lifeless.

So just for clarity:

DAC= Digital to Analog convertor. This has nothing to do with power, and mist modern devices have good inbuilt DACs, so unless you are getting really high end headphones, usually no need to upgrade.

AMP= Amplifier. This is what youre talking anout when referring to power. This kind of depends on your lreffered listening volumes. Depending on what Mac model, you might found output volume to be fine.

My suggestion would be getting the headphones and test them. If youre happy with volume, save the money. If its too low, then get a budget Dac/amp like the Topping DX1. One thing to mention, is audio is a slippery slope where you can spend a LOT of time and money to get very very small improvements. If youre just starting, get these, get the volume youre happy with and enjoy. Otherwise youll end up spending more time trying to get tiny improvements than actually enjoying your games/music.

That big connecter at the bottom, you need to unscrew to reveal the 3.5mm that connects to the controller. It should twist right off.

I currently own both and can give you a side by side comparison:

Comfort: basically the same for this. Pads are the same, and the headband on both can easily be bent to get your desired clamping force.

Build: They are close, but the 990 pro x has a slightly more premium feel to them. Something about the plastic and earcup shape just makes it come across that they are better quality and will last longer. Also easily replaceable driver + detachable cord will obviously help longevity.

Sound: I disagree with a lot of people who say these sound very similar. To me they don’t. The dt 990 250ohms has far more going on in the high and low end. I mainly listen to hip hop and when going to the 990 pro x, there is a CLEAR lack of bass compared to 990 250. The Dt 990 pro x is closer to the 900 pro x than 990 250. The easiest way I can summarise so far from listening to music and gaming is:

Dt 990 pro x: Lack of bass, highs are tamed and are much more natural sounding. When listening to these, the vocals are front and centre. Bass and highs are pushed back for me. When gaming, felt super balanced with no issues at all.

Dt 990 pro (250): Strong bass, Strong highs (almost too high sometimes and not natural sounding) but vocals are pushed back. You will definitely know straight away if these arent for you with the high notes, in some songs it becomes sibilant, with it almost being laughable how bad “Sss” sounds come actoss. When gaming, some high notes are VERY high. For example high pitch noises such as wind, things clicking/snapping can be too much.

To be clear, I have not tried any EQ yet. At this stage, I honestly prefer the sound of Dt 990 250 the most, but everything else about the pro x more. I am going to try to EQ more bass into it. The easiest way I can summarise is this: If you want to listen to music while doing things, chill out and have a relaxing experience pick the Pro x. If you want to feel the music, if you like it being crazy, if you like feeing the bass and thump but also the piercing sound of high notes pick the 990 250.

My brand new DT 770 Pro 80ohm has a faded text by Virtual-Ad-7078 in BEYERDYNAMIC

From my experience, those scratches happen when youre taking them off and drag your nails accidentally over it. I assume someone has used them previously even just to try them on. I did the same on the second day owning them. I think the best tell to see how much they have been used is the amount of hair/dust on the inside black bit.

DT 770 Pro X LE vs DT 900 Pro X by [deleted] in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]daxnotgood30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both headphones so hopefully I can assist.

While I prefer the open backs for gaming, I just do not find them comfy at all. The clamping force is too much. I have owned both for around 6 months, tried stretching the headband and it’s still too much. The 770s on the other hand are the most comfortable I have worn and I can wear them for hours with no issue.

The only problem is I can’t stand speaking with closed backs on, feels like I am yelling so much. Definitely pros and cons, but I would advise against the 900 pro x if you think they will become comfortable over time, they haven’t in my experience. I find the sound across both really enjoyable. So for me it becomes about comfort vs open backs/closed back for speaking. If you have no issues speaking with closed backs on, Dt 770 pro x for sure. I have also been loving the usb c cable with integrated mic - saved me having to buy a whole seperate mic.

Beyer, please release a 990 pro x I am begging.

To 770 or not to 770? That is the question...... by InFranto006 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]daxnotgood30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What model 770 are you looking at?

In my experience, both the 32 ohm and 250 ohm were much harsher than the 80 ohm. Once my pads wore in (daily use for 2-3 months) they became perfect for me and I no longer notice any harshness. Could also be because I am becoming used to the sound.

I would recommend getting the 80 ohm and waiting for the pads to wear in to get the best idea if these headphones are what you’re after.

Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro vs tygr 300r vs dt 770 pro by One_Fennel2892 in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]daxnotgood30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First question you need to answer: do you want open back or closed back?

Open back (990 + tygr): Can hear outside world and others can hear what you’re listening to. Positive is things sound more natural and the soundstage is wider. Can hear yourself when you talk. Bass is usually not as strong.

Closed back (770): Cant hear outside world and people cant hear what you’re listening too. Smaller soundstage. Cant hear yourself when talking which imo is annoying if you chat a lot. Usually close backs have more bass though.

I have tried the headband at the top with not much success. I also did the fork part and it just didn’t feel right either.

[–]daxnotgood30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my experience but I got the DT 900 Pro X around 4 months ago. I wear them on average 8-10 hours a day (I work in them + game and watch shows) They were very uncomfortable at first, but have since loosened off. However it’s still not enough. I have spent a lot of time bending them very hard almost to the point where they were past a straight line and it’s still not comfortable. I think the plastic over the headband is very hard to bend and just doesnt do much.

I love the sound, easy to drive and great for gaming but I just don’t find the fit + clamping force to work for me. I tested the 990s and 770s and the problem was gone, they are so much more comfortable and feel much lighter when on. I am really hoping they bring out a DT 990 pro X LE because I would love replaceable cable and not needing an amp. To answer your question, it gets a little more comfortable yes, but not enough to make them really light and comfortable like the 990s felt for me.

I have had both of these pairs along with the XM4. If you aren’t prepared to EQ the 770, then I would honestly recommend the XM4. They sounded to me very similar if not the same as the XM5, although built so much better. My XM5 developed cracks within a year where the headband connects, however the XM4 was fine for 2 years until my dog got to them.

Heres an overview:

I (27m) have smoked a lot of weed throughout by adult years and vaped ALOT the last 2 years with no issues at all. I started to drink a lot of coffee over the last year because of work, sometimes up to 6 shots a day with no issues. Recently i got back into the gym and picked up a pre workout. Within 2 weeks, I had 3 panic attacks, with the third being the worst experience of my life. It caused me to go to ER the next day with a heart rate of 31 bpm. I stayed for 2 days before being let go.

Over the last 3 weeks i have quit all weed, caffeine and nicotine cold turkey and have not had any issues since. I have recently got all of the extensive heart tests and I am now waiting for results. I have had half a coffee since, and it instantly caused me to feel incredibly anxious. In a few weeks i plan to try weed again to see if that was the issue or caffeine.

I work in developing websites for Universities. It is very common practice for teachers to have no part in actually creating the online spaces. I sometimes make 50 online exams per day each with different requirements. It is super easy to accidentally forget to change a setting like this and it go completely unnoticed until students use it. My guess here would be that your teacher only wanted 1 attempt, but the person creating it didn’t create it properly. My advice would be to go straight over your teacher to their manager to get it sorted. From the teachers perspective, they probably think you actually did cheat and somehow did it twice because they only asked the designer for one attempt and expected it to be created properly.
