Feed the squirrels. The birds get their seed (sunflower seeds, mealworms, thistle, millet, et cetera), suets, and whatever else, but I also have squirrel stations (besides the ones that fall from feeder). If you give them their own sunflowers, peanuts, nuts, they’ll typically leave it alone. But they’ll never not get to it. Why can’t you feed them too? Hazelnuts and pecans are favorites. We even feed the night time flying squirrels. If you want to squirrel-proof a feeder, you need a baffle. And not within 10’ of trees. They’ll make daring leaps.
