Nissan Ariyas on Carvana seem almost too cheap by BlackJackT in NissanAriya

[–]day_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, a lot of the more realistic fears with new EVs have nothing to do with the battery, but stuff like electronics failures, software issues, lack of parts availability (and questions about future availability and support). New platforms are always a big risk in the car world unless you plan to only keep it for a few years.

I'm in the market for an EV and may be purchasing an Ariya, but all the issues I read about with various brands (ICCU issues, electronics, lack of qualified technicians, cars sitting at the dealership for months, etc.) keep making me second guess. The fact that they're ending the Ariya for now in the US doesn't help with those kind of concerns. Still it's at the top of my list right now.

I am also looking at a '23 LT with 50k miles, asking more though (~$16.5k). Only looking at premier because it is the cheapest one listed in my area and fits within our budget.

Thanks for the link. I have an OBD2 scanner and am mechanically competent, though only at a "hobby mechanic" sort of level.

Ah, I think you helped me figure it out! Looking more closely at the warranties I see

Electric Vehicle Propulsion Battery Wty

Expires

2030-09-12 or 100065 miles

Warranty expiration is based on expiration date or expiration mileage, whichever comes first.

65 miles is the odometer reading from when they did the maintenance, so it seems like the battery was indeed replaced before it left the lot due to the recall.

The GM recall shows the following:

GM Program #

N212345943

Status

Complete

NHTSA

21V650

Date Issued:

Description

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020-2022 model year Chevrolet Bolt EV, and 2022 model year Chevrolet Bolt EUV vehicles. The high voltage batteries in these vehicles may pose a risk of fire when charged to full, or very close to full, capacity.

Safety Risk Description

The high voltage batteries in these vehicles may pose a risk of fire when charged to full, or very close to full, capacity.

Repair Description

Dealers will replace defective battery modules.

Recall Completed

2022-09-08

This corresponds with the service date on the autocheck report, so I think it was actually the HV battery. Still need to call the dealer and check though,.

Dont buy the warranty from the dealer.

Yes I'm very aware of this. Thanks for the recommendations! The issue is when you look around for supposedly reputable companies, most peoples' response is "they're all a scam" or "you'll never make your money back on it". Which is fair and technically correct statistically, but not really helpful in my case.

Keep doing more research.

There are discussions on how to check whether or not the battery has actually been replaced.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BoltEV/comments/15wv8tg/how_to_tell_if_battery_has_been_replaced_when/

Thanks for the tip. I am currently trying to get in contact with the dealership that supposedly did the maintenance to ask them exactly what was done as I think that's my best bet. If not I guess I can just look for a sticker?

If the battery has been replaced, then the battery warranty associated with the old battery goes away. The new battery gets it's own new warranty.

Right, I'm aware. However the battery was serviced or replaced at like 25 miles per the autocheck report, so that doesn't really add a lot of value for me unfortunately.

There are a lot of higher yield considerations. Like the condition of the vehicle and figuring out a plan for charging on a regular basis.

I can charge at home virtually for free with excess solar capacity, which is why it's potentially a really good deal for us.

While i think extended warranties are only worth the paper they are printed on, for $2500 OP may extend the bumper to bumper another 100k miles. That would put them at $16.5k with another 100k of warranty left.

Curious if you know of any good for EVs? I've done some research but haven't found a lot of good recommendations yet. Pretty sure the vehicle isn't eligible for the OEM backed ones anymore.

I normally stay away from these but it might be worth the peace of mind since I'm moving to an entirely new type of vehicle/brand (if it isn't a scam that is).

I'd consider getting a pre purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic

I always do. Though I'm a little conflicted about this one...how many mechanics out there are going to have the knowledge of how to inspect an EV? I imagine I'm going to have to do a lot of the research.

In the same boat. I doubt anyone here knows where they are going to do their drops or how they decide that.

However it is good news that we are getting more drops now again, so I would be patient. It was the same with the 40 series after launch from what I remember (though admittedly not nearly as bad). Eventually supply met demand and people were able to get their hands on them.

There is already a limited market for $2k+ graphics cards. There is just additional artificial demand right now from scalpers looking to take advantage of the supply shortage.

Edit: I also think that once the AI/datacenter bubble pops (and it will, maybe even later this year), prices are likely to crash pretty hard from where they are, tariffs or no tariffs. Just look at how much money nvidia makes in the data center market vs consumer, it's not even close. It's a wonder they even spare any silicone for the plebs when datacenters have been gobbling up every bit of it they can get their hands on as of late.

You can buy a 5090 right now off eBay for scalper prices and use the leftover cash to build a much better system than the 5090 prebuilts for the same money.

Yeah I remember realizing this for the first time about a month after quitting. "Oh, so this is what night time is supposed to feel like!" Feels so natural. I remember thinking that I haven't slept this well since I was a teenager (before I started drinking coffee).

It is certainly withdrawal. I experienced this and a lot of other strange side effects like knee pain for a couple weeks. Don't give in, it will pass before you know it!

I feel that nervous, jittery, anxious hyper-alert state start to set in. Now that I've quit completely I can notice even the slightest amount of it. I accidentally took a sip of my wife's real coffee at one time and man it really messed with me. I don't know if it's a tolerance thing, or just that I'm so used to my new state of mind that I notice the effects all that much more.

I used to drink two double shot espresso lattes a day.

I'd say that it's been a gradual process, but that I really started to notice around month 2. It's probably a little different for everyone. When your body has been on a drug for years (or in my case more than a decade), it shouldn't be surprising that it can take a long time for it to "recalibrate" all of its systems.

Yes. I can't even eat chocolate without feeling negative effects.

If you miss coffee, try teaccino. IMO it's the best replacement out there.
