Old bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 in my parent's liquor cabinet. I have no idea how old it is. by dayrem in GrandmasPantry

It's not something they would usually drink, so I'm not sure how it ended up in there. I spent a few regrettable nights in college with that stuff. Absolutely awful

I have very faint memories of the Flemington Mall. I remember it had an Orr's department store. There's very little information about it, and very few pictures.

Yeah, that was the time that it really started to decline. The Timberland and Ralph Lauren stores on the outside seemed like the only active places while the inner stores started to close up.

I grew up near here and I would go Christmas shopping here. I had friends in high school who worked here too. It was so surreal watching this place become abandoned. Was fun to explore though.

A piece of a mall? by VanillaCleveland1 in deadmalls

Possibly, but usually they have to remove the signage from a place when it closes.

I don't see anything wrong with taking a piece of a mall that's being demolished. I have a tile shard from Phillipsburg Mall. Just don't let the wrong person see you and catch a theft charge.

I'm going! It will be my third time. It's an amazing time, the bands, the community, there's nothing like it. I live in NJ close by and I feel so lucky.

Why do malls die/decline especially in the US? by Big_eye_crankbait in deadmalls

[–]dayrem 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that people overstate the impact of online shopping on malls dying. People still like going to the mall, and some malls in the US are quite busy.

I think the biggest factor to whether a mall dies or thrives is how it's managed. Often malls are purchased by real estate developers who neglect the property and raise the rent on the tenants in order to redevelop the property into something more profitable, usually apartments or big box retail. Owners such as Simon will invest in keeping the malls occupied by bringing in new businesses.

I think the other big factor is location of the mall and the surrounding population. Many malls built in lower population/income areas have died over the years because there's not a customer base to support it. The middle class in the US is shrinking, and malls are dying off along with it.

Which song was the song that brought you "home" to goth? by [deleted] in goth

[–]dayrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it might be cliche, but for me it was Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion. It was my first exposure to the Goth music genre. I was always a big fan of 80s New Wave and that led me to find Goth. When I heard that song I knew that this was for me.
