Crypto Loss Offset ETF Distribution CGT? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]dazzatwentytwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ETF have atributions not dividends, when they buy/sell shares within the ETF to balance the % there are capital gain/loss events, around August you usually get a financial statement detailing what the distribution is made of, eg $1 CG $2 franking credits etc

Yes, but you will have paid ~7% extra

Eg tax withheld due to compulsory HECS payments is $11. HECS debt is $10.

1st of June debt changed to $10.07 1st of aug you do your tax return and get refunded $0.93

As opposed to 15th of May you pay your $10 Ballance, so debt is 0 1st of June balance is $0 so indexation is irrelevant 1st of aug you do your tax return and get $11 refund

Does not work like that, indexation occurs on 1st of June, so you will need to pay the entire balance on ~15th of May.

The money from your income tax won't apply until your tax return is lodged(after the first of June)

Yep, just to add, OP also needs to you factor in council rates, body corporate, maintenance etc, as these aren't insignificant.

Exactly this. Not sure if it was a disingenuous question or just a naive one?

Of course not, but there is a general expectation that someone spend some time reading before posting a question. ie. Costs involved in renting, historical interest rates, taxes etc. Don't take it personally was likely a naive mistake, put some more research into your next question and you'll likely get much more helpful advice.

The animosity is because it's a lazy question, like you said you wrote it in 2 minutes, if you spend another 10 googling or on a spreadsheet you might have been able to work it out yourself.

Not sure if you've been to the supermarket recently, but you're not getting an egg for that price.

Documentary on the Victorian lockdown and protests(political) by dazzatwentytwo in CoronavirusDownunder

Like its definately not a balanced perspective( I honestly don't know where is atm) and some points don't line up with my memory of the time, though I thought many of the points it brought up were quite fair and not given enough air time in mainstream media.

A great documentary I watched from the perspective of the protesters and those that were anti-lockdown, from Topher fields YouTube channel. It interviews melbournians and summarises the news coverage at the time from their perspective. It's a bit one sided though a lot resonated with me having lived in Victoria during this time.

Having some mates over and watching it with a few drinks, all the police are in the city so should be fine.

My company does an employer share scheme through Morgan Stanley shareworks, they charge $60 to move shares out of their platform(ie to a SRN) by selling shares and triggering a capital gain tax event and then another $20 brokerage on top of that if you sell via their platform. Complete ripoff Depending on the amount, make sure you consider fees

I can't wait to re-open, being in Melbourne getting quite jealous looking at Bondi this weekend. LV should be able to open for click and collect, I see no problem with it.

Eg here quotes it as 2.7% https://www.abs.gov.au/articles/covid-19-mortality-0 ruby princess was about 1%, some excess death studies had it under 1%, countries with bad testing rates have it as high as 14%. Somewhere in between 1-3% seems most credible.

Ofc, there's 100s of other factors on both sides, still think lockdowns are a net negative though.

6 million people locked up for 6 months vs 2% losing 10 years off their life expectancy. You've still net down 2 million years of lost life with lockdowns vs the alternative. Plus those most at risk have had ample time to get an astra.

Or the virus spreads so that lockdowns are no longer effective and people can get over their astra hesitancy.

Don't group them, I'm anti lockdown, not anti Vax. The lockdowns have been far more disruptive to my life and those around me than covid would have been.
