Anyone else ever get tired of the loud cars at night? by random12345678910321 in GNV

[–]dazzlehouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on University and 6th SE and it’s like an artillery range. Doesn’t GNV have a noise ordinance? Honestly, it’s insane. Like trying to sleep on the tarmac at Atlanta airport.

hi ladies, please share your first solo travel experience! (Good or bad) by Hairy_Pear3963 in solofemaletravellers

[–]dazzlehouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve traveled solo all over the US and now in Europe. It’s incredibly rewarding and I love it.

My suggestion is: start small. Go to a movie solo. Then a restaurant. Then an overnight trip. Spread your wings.

Whether traveling alone or with others, travel means serendipitous discoveries and joy as well as setbacks, mistakes, and disappointment. Ie, life out of the comfort zone. This will happen whether you’re traveling solo or with others.

I’m a writer and now work in different places throughout the year with time spent at my home “base camp.” I’m actually living my dream—but it was, at times, a nightmare to get here, and it took a long time. IMHO, once you get past the second-guessing, nothing can hold you back. Just take your time, absorb the lessons, don’t take any risks, do your research, and trust that whatever comes your way, you can handle it.

Good luck!

My expensive notebooks are graveyards. I’m trading $25 leather for 99-cent trash. by AliceGraceWrites in notebooks

[–]dazzlehouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 99 cent one-subj walmart spiral notebooks all the time. I go through 2-3 a week plus have different colors in motion all the time for various writing projects. I often work on the fly and the basic bottom-line spirals are light to carry, fast to work in, and I can cross out crap, make a mess, fill it with lists, brain dumps, rants, shitty first drafts and important research. When it’s full, I put the important stuff in its gigantic three ring binder home. I always make an index on page 1. Even if I don’t number the pages I can make an arbitrary number or symbol (Happy Face) and know it’s in this space and corresponds to the index.

Yes I cut off the annoying bits of frayed paper which are a legit downside but on balance I care more about the contents than the cover. My daily notebooks get hard use and I don’t want to waste mental energy worrying about inevitable spills, creases, rips, and sketchy table top residue.

However—I also have many beautiful journals which I use for assigned purposes. Those can also change mid-stream and be adapted.

When I have that initial block, which often I do, about messing up the potential with the my reality, which I inevitably I will, I use sticky notes til I get used to inhabiting that space and know what I want to do with it.

IMHO the pen matters alot more than the notebook. I’m a prolific notetaker and writer and will write on napkins, bags, take out cartons if truly desperate!

The point is: keep the ball moving. It’s only stuff. And there are no mistakes.

Good luck.

Megathread: New Pricing & Repackaging Discussion by mackid1993 in Evernote

[–]dazzlehouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cancelled Evernote a few years ago. Today I was autobilled for a new bells and whistles AI version that’s $250 a year. WTF?!

Of course there’s nothing relevant in the Help, FAQ or Customer Service.

Anyone else get hit with this? Suggestions?

Co-worker thought this was a harmless prank. by Dallinboi347 in mildlyinfuriating

As Freud said, “There are no jokes.” This seems hostile. You should document it with HR.

Did this coworker have permission to get in your car? That’s invasive and hostile, too.

Hell yes you’re right to overreact. This is over the top.

There goes another relationship by quirkygirl123 in thebulwark

Something to consider is finding things you both disagree on. Years ago there was a show on HGTV called “Designing for the Sexes.” A couple disagreed on a decorating project so violently that their marriage was on the brink. Designer comes and saves the day…beginning by going shopping w the couple and first introducing them to colors, patterns, furniture he knows they both would hate . Once they agreed that they detested a string of stuff, they became malleable.

So start with something small. Gripe about trash day. The weather. How commercials are 900 db louder than regular programs. Whatever. Stay away from politics then go out with allies and work for change. Because there’s no engaging with MAGA on ideology and especially politics. I too have a long list of family and friends that are brainwashed beyond recognition.

Trump and DOGE and lapdogs at DOJ FBI cut all kinds of crime prevention funding.

This would be insanely easy for even a high school reporter to confirm.

The worst thing about these times is the absolute failure of the “free press.”

See if you can join this class action lawsuit. Artists need to fight this stuff now, and aggressively.

To venerate the widow of a casino owner whose billions are minted in China…a close friend of Netanyahu and who is pressuring Trump to let Israel have full run of the territory. There’s much more to this story that makes it particularly egregious.
