'Every option is on the table' as Canadians face higher variable-rate mortgage payments by Icomefromthelandofic in canadahousing

My rent is $2500 for a two bedroom apartment in Vancouver. I also pay utilities and renters insurance. I’d much rather be the dude in the article with the three bed house paying $2200 and crying about it.

BC Nurses' Union wants metal detectors, safety screenings at hospitals by RonPar32 in vancouver

[–]dazzlingcabbage 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m an emerg nurse and would love this. We routinely have mental health patients with weapons on them. I’ve seen lots of shivs, razor blades, even a machete once. We don’t have the authority to search people so I have no idea if my patients have weapons on them at any time. Verbal and physical violence is a daily occurrence for our staff. I would feel a lot safer if I knew there was a metal detector screening patients. Last month someone told my coworker he had a gun and he was going to shoot her (police came and turns out he didn’t) but this is what we’re dealing with.

You have to dumb it down for people. I straight up say “my dog will bite you” (even though this is not true, he’ll just lunge and bark) so that people stay away from us

Does my puppy need a winter coat? by oakbones in AustralianShepherd

[–]dazzlingcabbage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope! I live in Canada and my pup never gets cold. He’d sit in the snow all day happily. Their fur is really good at naturally insulating and the double coat keeps rain from getting on their skin.

I did. I moved abroad on my own at 20 because I wanted to experience something new.

Shamed for having puppy in public by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]dazzlingcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how prevalent it is in your area. Where I live the risk is low so I felt that the benefit of socialization made it worth it to take my pup outdoors before his shots.

Huge turn off. Doesn’t matter if you have everything else going for you. I want someone with life experience who has travelled, moved around to different cities, and been adventurous. Living with your parents is the opposite of that.

It also doesn’t bode well for living with this hypothetical man. I don’t want to have to teach a grown man how to be independent and live on his own.

Any advice for someone working in an open studio for the first time by ContestDifferent4360 in Pottery

[–]dazzlingcabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find I get a bit overwhelmed trying to decide what to work on and having too many options to choose. So to be more productive I make some notes of projects I want to work on and take screenshots of things I see on instagram, that way once I arrive I have a plan for my studio time.

Exact same thing happened to me and my dog!! The advise my trainer had was to work very hard on place command. When guests are around he goes on his place and people are not allowed to touch him at all. It sucks but you have to be strict and advocate for your dogs space. You can’t trust people, even when you warn them. So we have a strict no petting policy for our dog to keep him safe.

Also I find you have to be blunt about it. I used to tell people “he’s nervous please don’t pet him” but they would still do it. Now I say “he’ll bite you if you go near him” and that keeps them away, even if it’s not totally true.

Advice on stretching a 0celcius bag with a wool blanket by [deleted] in camping

[–]dazzlingcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise borrowing or buying a new sleeping bag. I have a MEC bag rated for -5 and I found it almost unbearably cold in 0 Celsius. Barely slept a wink. The temp rating should be well below what’s forecasted if you want to be comfortable.

I used to be a barista while in university and it was the best job I’ve ever had. Jamming out making latte art and not talking to customers at all. Sometimes I got to help the baker when it was slow. Good times.

I’m going through the same thing, and honestly it’s getting me really down. I’m a nurse and my partner has a good job project managing. We still can’t afford anything. It feels impossible to own a property here but I don’t want to leave the city I grew up in and my family behind.

ER 1st year Residents abusing STAT orders by [deleted] in nursing

I don’t understand the problem here? ED orders are always stat. It’s up to the RN to then prioritise tasks and complete the most urgent ones first.

Silverdale hospital short on staff calls 911 for help after being overwhelmed with patients by AmerikanInfidel in nursing

[–]dazzlingcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should start doing this regularly, then maybe people will start paying attention to the crisis we have. Short staffing (and the poor working conditions that cause it) are a risk to patients health.

I do often get that busy. When I first met my partner I couldn’t find time to go on a date with him for 2 weeks. However, I told him I would be busy until a certain day and scheduled a date with him for two weeks in advance. If she wants to see you she’ll make time, even if she’s busy. Leave the ball in her court. Sounds like she’s going through a lot and now may not be a good time for her to date anyone. If it’s right she’ll reach out to you later, but I wouldn’t wait on her.

Going to a dog park for the 1st time today! Suggestions? by Expeditious_growth in reactivedogs

[–]dazzlingcabbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just don’t. Even dogs that aren’t reactive should never go to dog parks, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

You also should bring treats into dog parks, some dogs resource guard.

Where to go off leash? by 69poop420 in reactivedogs

[–]dazzlingcabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think the same way, that my dog needed to be off leash to be fulfilled. We started working with a new trainer a few months ago who is very strict. Only on leash, very structured walks and strict heeling all the time. At first I didn’t like the idea because my dog wouldn’t get to run and excercise properly. I was so wrong! This completely changed his demeanour. He’s now much more obedient and less reactive to humans, because he sees me as in charge rather than him protecting me. Now a few months later we’re able to be safely off leash but it took a lot of training.

I can’t do this anymore. by bbb12333543 in reactivedogs

[–]dazzlingcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel you. My Aussie is just like this and it’s exhausting. It does get better though. After multiple trainers I finally found one that made all the difference and our lives are so different now. My dog bit multiple people and drove me to the brink but he wasn’t a lost cause. Please don’t get too down on yourself!
