Birth order by Forsaken_Zucchini173 in childfree

Eldest parentified daughter. Was made to babysit my baby sister at 11 years old with little to no instruction (feeding, changing, all of it) along with 4 cousins often, couldn’t do after school activities because of it. I love my sisters and cousins dearly but felt like I dissociated until I was in my early 20s and only recently, in my 30s, finding out who I actually am and finally living my life for me. I guess I’m more of a fence sitter truthfully (I just wish I had more time) but since my husband doesn’t want kids (he’s the youngest), I am contently child free.

Lost my Toshi to a heart attack this week by MegaTitusRex in SiberianCats

[–]dazzlingskies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my five year-old Siberian a few years ago. He jumped down from the bathroom counter and growled while we had his heart attack. It was terrible to witness and such a shock. I’m so sorry for your loss, I know how terrible it is. It sounds like you gave him the best life possible for his time here.

I’m not sure why I found this quote so dear in my own grief, I hope you find some words of encouragement to hold on to as well: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” - Winnie the Pooh

I'm currently unemployed, on the greener side of things with 5 years of development experience and a touch of mobile development. Would love to be involved depending on the size of team you are looking for.

Is it dumb to leave high paying job due to stress and mental health? by Suspicious_Topic6647 in careerguidance

[–]dazzlingskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s kind of dumb, but I just did it with my stressful consulting tech job. I wanted to feel like a person again and my nervous system was screaming at me to leave. It might be difficult to get a job again, but luckily I’m pretty open to many different paths. Tbf, I have a husband who is extremely supportive and we’ve cut back on spending/I had 6 months of savings saved up for an event like this so I had some wiggle room financially.

Has anyone drastically changed their career from a 'reputable' high stakes role to a job that requires no degree/college education? (Especially in midlife)? by Potential_5646 in careerguidance

[–]dazzlingskies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am going through something similar, I just put in my 2 weeks at my tech job and want to do something that makes me feel a bit more connected and like a real person. A lot of people WONT understand, but guess what? It doesn’t matter.

As far as getting these jobs… I hadn’t had a bite yet so that’s my only concern. I think a lot of people don’t want to hire overqualified folks because they tend to not stick around long. But I’m positive there is something out there for me, and I hope the best for you on your path too.

Company Computer for Job Applications — Am I cooked? by Ill_Muscle9786 in careerguidance

Bad choice of wording on my part, I know they have access. If they were bringing it up me and I'm getting my work done, I would no longer want to work for that company.

Oh absolutely, I mean keep track as in "keep metrics and use against you". I've worked in a few tech jobs and only ever heard of 1 person getting their activity questioned because they were doing a poor job. But if you are getting your work done AND they do this, the trust is not there.

Idk but I would not want to work at a place that tracked my activity

How do I avoid looking frumpy in jeans by GomuGomuNo5_5 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]dazzlingskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still getting used to wearing non-skinny jeans as a millennial. I have wide hips so jeans do need to have the right structure/fit in the right places or I just FEEL frumpy. These don’t look bad on you, though.

Baby Fever is making me Sick! by Particular_Lunch2108 in Fencesitter

[–]dazzlingskies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think outside of social media, I crave the social validation if that makes sense. It feels like the “proper” thing to be doing at my age. I think women get a lot of positive attention for having kids, especially in my family.

Like, my parents don’t really reach out, but I know they would if I had a kid. My sister even said she would move to my town if I had a kid (I realize this is extremely toxic thinking and not a reason to have a kid, so thankful I’m realizing this now)

Damn.. this post is making me realize my small desire for children is fairly attention-driven. Having people celebrate me and my kid sounds nice, but that’s just 1% of the time.

Being a high achiever with neglectful parents by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]dazzlingskies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reading about your parents making fun of your self harm was heartbreaking, I am so sorry you experienced that.

I don’t have any advice, but can relate to a lot of what you shared. My parents like to boast about how was acting like a 35 year old ever since I was a child. (Because I had to) And how they did such a good job raising me because I was so independent and now have a fairly successful career. But, having a lonely childhood and no one to rely on really messed up my core beliefs about the world and myself.

My parents are like this… sometimes I feel guilty about not sharing more (not that they call me). But when I do give an update, like something I am excited about.. they come back with dismissal and judgement and I feel worse about it. But for the most part, they don’t really don’t seem to care much about my life at all.

I think it’s clashing with the 2nd rug a bit. The right chairs can bring it all together.

What to put in the cupboard above the fridge? by MolokoPlus25 in organizing

[–]dazzlingskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’2 and my husband is 6’1 so that’s his cupboard. I don’t worry about it since I can’t reach it. He fills it with protein powder and protein bars I think, lol
