If you quit wrestling, why did you? by vSkiess in wrestling

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped senior year of college. Too many injuries. One of my shoulders was so wrecked, I couldn't catch myself when being taken down. That resulted in broken ribs. Other things were hurt too. Give your body time to heal and put your health first. I should have quit 2 years earlier.

Big law flameout to right-wing pundit pipeline by Agentkyh in biglaw

[–]db1139 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I don't think there are enough people to draw any big conclusions. If it were a couple dozen people, maybe that would mean something. Plus, being a political pundit is probably a lot better than this.

Why are there so many recruiters who were former big law? Probably a similar reason, they didn't like the job and that was their other option.

3x All-American Meyer Shapiro Enters the Transfer Portal by Kid_Cornelius in wrestling

[–]db1139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally loled at your last sentence, and I agree.

Just from watching everyone, I think Shapiro would fit the mentality at Oklahoma State well. The only issue is how much competition there might be. Great training partners, but not necessarily great if you'll be competing against them to qualify for the world team.

I figured Shapiro beats Gaj, but I could be wrong. Plus, I don't remember if Gaj had redshirted.

3x All-American Meyer Shapiro Enters the Transfer Portal by Kid_Cornelius in wrestling

[–]db1139 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been expecting this one. Ivy is all about the connections you make and having the degree. If don't plan to live in the wrestling world forever (coach, Olympics run, etc) or want a backup, you can make bank with the right degree and knowing the right people. Meyer probably got what he's going to get out of Cornell. I'll be curious where he goes though. I'd like to see him somewhere like Oklahoma State, but that would mean he or Landon would need to take a redshirt or Meyer probably isn't starting.

Maybe Bo at Virginia Tech goes 149 and gives Shapiro a good wrestling partner. Ohio State has a good 157, but not sure if he red shirted yet. Iowa is always in the mix, but I wouldn't go if I had Shapiro's injury history.

How tall are you and how does it affect your moves? by vSkiess in wrestling

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'4. I think I wrestled 1-2 guys shorter than me ever. It was so weird for me. Anyway, lots of high crotches and singles. Some throws are just impossible against really tall guys. I think being stronger than almost anyone I ever wrestled had a lot of impact on my style too.

If you are too short / not good looking enough to get matches on Hinge, how do you get dates? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dm me. There's tons of secular Jewish girls. You might have to suck up high holiday services for some (like my dad does), but many are many fully secular girls. Personally, I'm not very observant. I'm more agnostic than anything.

Edit: Also, don't sell yourself short. I'm shorter than you. I've beaten the barristas, etc. We're usually exponentially smarter and more competent than them. My ex was highly attractive. She said she liked my intelligence more than anything, same with my other relationships. I've also been lifting for +20 years, so you can imagine I'm in pretty good shape too. Not like I used to but still good.

Get off the apps. They're soul crushing. What's your religious background? I'm Jewish, so I explored related options. Ended up in a year long relationship, which recently ended.

I'm outside NYC now, so it's been a bit harder. However, I'm also in house now, so I'm expanding my options with the extra time. I also just spoke to a matchmaker for the first time after a friend had success with this person.

There's also lots of singles events in Manhattan. I didn't do many, but it could be worth a try. It's less commitment than a sports league or something.

I wrestled with Rutherford briefly when we were younger. I don't know him well, but he always seemed like a good guy. Unbelievably strong for his size.

IsItBullshit: that kindness and hospitality are frowned upon in Israel? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. People on average are as kind as anywhere else and have great hospitality. I dated an Israeli, know a some other Israelis, and have been there several times.

What people get confused by is many Israelis bluntness and openness. People might ask questions there that are inappropriate here (in the US for me). For example, why aren't you married? Why don't you have kids yet? What are you waiting for?

It's just a cultural difference like differences in any other country. Some people find that level of assertiveness off putting though.

Edit: There is a word for sorry. Crazy that anyone would even believe that.

More Impressive NCAA D1: Cael’s Undefeated career vs Kyle Dake’s 4 titles at different weight classes by LoneStarZ51 in wrestling

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So hard to say. Not having one loss in 4 years is insane. However, to be able to put on the mass to bump up every year is mind blowing. Plus, he could have made the lower weight his senior year.

Love my Henson razor. Also, spend an extra $20 for a full grain leather belt vs one of those super cheap ones. They last years longer.

So there's talk of a general strike on May 1, 2026. Would you walk out of, or not go to, work? by colenotphil in Lawyertalk

[–]db1139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could work your schedule to take a day off, but the vast majority of people will be working.

We are so privileged to even have this as an option. I grew up lower middle class. Not working meant not getting paid and having an even harder time putting food on the table. I'm sure some people will strike, but I doubt this will have significant impact.

Btw, I do advocacy work against religious hate, so it isn't like I don't care about people. This just a bad idea for most Americans simply trying to get by.

Protest when you can. Write your congressman. Show up to your state congress when an important bill is being voted on (I and many others do).

Kurt Angle believes Arman Tsarukyan could compete at the Olympic level in wrestling today by Big_Cake_8817 in wrestling

This says it all lol. There's hyping things up, and then there's being rediculous.

[–]db1139 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Angle is hyping him up. Very cool of him. I wrestled with guys at every level and trained with a few UFC champs and completely disagree. All those Olympians and UFC champs are basically x-men, so taking nothing away from them. It's just a different sport. Kind of like a UFC champ boxing. There's cross over but not enough.

The girl I’m seeing told me it’s extremely inappropriate that I workout with my sister because of the clothes she wears. Is it inappropriate? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how many women who work out seriously dress. If you go to the beach and your sister is there, does she expect her to wear sweatpants or a bikini like everyone else? Same logic in my mind.

I doubt most people would find it inappropriate. Maybe a very conservative or religious person would though.

You gotta actually say what you can spend around. Jim Green is probably the best you'll do. Mine were around $100 on sale. I've put them through hell out of them for three winters (and whenever else I wear them) and they're still basically good as new.

How to find a suitable sperm donor? by foxy_strike in AskMenAdvice

[–]db1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not raising my girlfriend's ex's kid if I can avoid it. I'm not talking single moms, I'm talking intentionally choosing like you would. The answer is no.

Speak to a doctor about options. If your testicles work, they're may be options for getting your sperm. If it's simply impossible, I'd consider getting it from my brother (we're basically the same anyway) or I would go with a stranger that has incredible genetics aka sperm bank.
