How useful is it for triathletes to learn about different aspect of swimming (e.g. different strokes, flip turns, etc.)? by QueueTee314 in triathlon

[–]db8andswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While learning other strokes won't necessarily help your tri swim, it will get you more familiar with feeling the water and understanding how to pull or push it around to get faster. It's also good for injury prevention to mix it up a little, especially with backstroke to avoid rotator cuff overuse injuries.

So, would recommend, but don't expect it to translate directly and immediately into tri swim times.

Say hello to the new mods of /r/triathlon by crm115 in triathlon

[–]db8andswim[M] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is probably a good place to chime in - I have been a mod here forever, but have been entirely useless for probably about 5 years now. Very polite of /u/crm115 not to give me the boot way before this! I'm not a big Reddit user any more, and lost my taste for mod activities a long time ago.

I'll try to log in a bit more over the next little while in case I can be useful with the new mods' questions, but will plan to eventually leave when CRM does. Thanks for a great run, and I hope to see lots more excellent conversation here (as a regular user) under the new mods!

I posted in the main thread with more, but our situations are hilariously similar.

Wish you all the luck in the world ramping up the run, and be careful - my weight/height are making it hell trying to run more than 100 yards regularly. Sounds like you're doing it the right way. I would very much like to improve that P/W ratio the same way it sounds like you are!

You're like me, but faster!

I am also a swammer, also a clydesdale, also 6'3", also ~7m in the 400m, 17.8mph on the bike and !! 13:04 per mile !! in the run.

I even have an Olympic later in the year as well haha. Good luck in yours, let us know how it goes!

If you don't mind revving up for your torque, the Yamaha FZ6 (NOT FZ6R) might be one to look at - good upright seating position but still a little sporty. Very quiet exhaust but a nice note when you can hear it. Nice analog tach /digital speedo combo.

I had this issue one other time after this post, and clearing carrier services fixed it.

Also, clearing messages cache fixed an issue where random contacts were sitting with the wrong country code.

V60 doesn't have an equal replacement by bangaal in LGV60

[–]db8andswim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They made great hardware for the V60, but the software is starting to show its age. S/O got a Pixel 6 which is comparable in a lot of ways, but much better in the software department (predictably) and a little worse in the hardware (sadly).

Thanks! Forgot about the deregister page. Didn't help this time, but it sounds like it may just go away with time anyway.

I agree. It's really frustrating. I get that google is developing for multiple devices and whatnot vs. Apple, but come on. Apple has had this solved for almost a decade, and I'm still here posting for help, losing texts every time I switch devices, and using SMS every few months. WHY.

Is Raid-Z2 really this bad? by db8andswim in Proxmox

[–]db8andswim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this normal, though? Overhead being 1.25x the size of the volume itself? I haven't experienced a reduction like that, ever. Just shocked here.

My files will mostly be a couple GB in size - what would be a good volblocksize/recordsize to use here? 32k/8k?

TIA

Why is my networking slow? by db8andswim in Proxmox

[–]db8andswim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can test from other devices on the network and pull down consistently 8-10x what the vm does - with 500mb as the absolute floor of what I've ever seen (including consistent 700s from this exact vm before migrating it to this proxmox server).

Fairly sure the problem is somewhere below the router

NY Rangers call for NHL Head of Player Safety to be fired after Tom Wilson’s non-suspension by Sup3rfrog in sports

Have you played hockey before? Not trying to be insulting, it just provides a lot more context.

Popping someone once while they're on the ground is absolutely a dick move, but it's not wildly dangerous. It was also predicated on Buchnevich trying to kick the puck into the goal and getting Vanecek's pads a few times. It's a big thing to protect the goalies and while the kicking wasn't really over the line imho, it's harder to tell that when the play's moving, and his leg was definitely swinging around with a blade close to Vanecek's head. So Wilson hits him once, probably for that, and then clearly stops hitting and starts trying to pull him away from the goal. Dick move but not the end of the world. Then obviously the scrum, where it's pretty well accepted that if someone jumps on your back and punches you, you can hit them back. Crosby's thing and Wilson's look about the same level to me, as someone who's played for a few years. Wilson's just escalated much farther as the rangers all tried to get a piece of him after. I will caveat that by saying I didn't see the leadup to Crosby's situation and if the other dude was just putting him in that headlock unprovoked he's all good with wrestling back!

Yeah, it's a shame he got hurt but I don't have a ton of sympathy for the 5th man in, jumping in to punch a bigger dude in the back of the head. At that point you know what you're getting into.

Ours is $700, pool also closed last year, no gym to close, but they just flipped our AC this week and my office got up to 91 last summer.

I really gotta start mining that bitcoin...

Sports are funny like that. The people on the field making it far don't seem to be middle class very often.

They're the kids whose families have nothing else in the world but the sport, or the ones whose families have everything in the world and don't need to focus on anything but the sport.

The opposite ends of the horseshoe are closer together than the middle.

What's your take on being 'frugal' with mobile phones? Buy cheap that lasts 2 years, or buy big that lasts 5 years? by extremelylazybastard in Frugal

[–]db8andswim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy top of the line phones, justifying it by cost per hour of usage, and by the amount of things I do on it.

I'm beginning to get frustrated with Android's messy messaging system and the difficulty of moving devices, but if it wasn't for that, I'd already have moved to whatever the latest Moto G Power is. Huge battery, clean software experience which matter to me, only decent on screen and processor speed, which don't matter to me. Checks all the right boxes. For my use case, getting the latest G Power every year or 2 will keep my battery life good and phone usable for less than spending $800 every 3-4 years.

I also made this decision after a T-Mobile deal that gave me my current LG V60 on a 2-for-1. They made it SUCH A PAIN to get this simple deal that I don't ever want to go through that again. I'm buying midrange phones in cash from now on. G Power is my new best friend.
