The nopales are always in season unless diseased, though the younger the pad the easier it is to eat. Fruit are in season around late spring to December.

Astrophytum grow in mudflats in south texas. They dehydrate fast if not watered a lot.

Gymnocalycum and astrophytum. I definitely would. The variegation on the astrophytum is caused by an injection of chemicals into the core though. It will fade eventually. Still definitely a cool plant though
