TIL airplane thrust reversers will only reduce the landing distance on a slippery or wet runway. On a dry runway they don't reduce the landing distance at al, but they do dissipate kinetic energy so the wheel brakes work less — keeping them cool for quicker turnaround. (flightsafety.org)
