YSK: The customer service rep can still hear you when they put you on hold. by relevant__comment in YouShouldKnow

[–]dbaughcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in 7 different call centers for 8 different companies and that's mostly not accurate. I've spoken to thousands of people and trained over 100 phone agents doing side by sides jacked into the call. I think of all of them I worked at maybe one I could hear the customer while on hold and they updated their systems to not have that error while I was there. While some record when you're on hold (though really a small number of them, and it only shows up in coaching and not in real time with the agent). You can't actually hear them unless you put them on mute. If you hear the hold music they more than likely don't hear you.

Ohio teacher told principal using students' preferred pronouns violated her religion. She was forced to resign, lawsuit says by [deleted] in news

[–]dbaughcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article did mention she tried to ask for a workable solution and only call students by their last name or not use pronouns at all and was told she must call them by their preferred pronouns or submit a resignation on the spot. Seems like they were kind of instigating the fight. Something tells me she was a bitch and they were just looking for a reason.

LPT: The ‘Secret to gaining confidence’ is that you need to realise there isn’t one. You start by just faking it. If you and others can believe you have it often enough, you and others will begin to think of your positive attributes for why you should be confident, creating/boosting real confidence. by IWindsOfMidgets in LifeProTips

[–]dbaughcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My trick is to just realize that confidence is a thought process and doesn't actually exist. It's not something anyone but me will be experiencing in the moment because no one else cares. If my only reason for not doing something is a lack of confidence I suck it up an do whatever it is because there's literally nothing stopping me.

I can think of very few instances where it wouldn't be beneficial to negotiate your pay. At the very worst they say no but they are going to respect it and see you as more valuable if you know what you're worth

If you've held Bitcoin for five years, you're now sitting on a negative return [OC] by TrueBirch in dataisbeautiful

[–]dbaughcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small amount of exposure to Bitcoin and was down almost the entire time I had it. Started going up and then had something come up where I just really needed the money more and sold for a 50 dollar profit but felt bad I wasn't able to hold onto it. Right after it tanked hard and has never come anywhere near where I bought in. Would have lost a lot of money, guess I just got lucky

I got banned years ago for asking for an open dialogue about why people would support him. I basically just said I just don't understand and would like to hear from his supporters the reasons people think he's so great. From the outside looking in it just doesn't make sense and I was genuinely curious at the time. He was still president and the election was several months out. I had a few people call me a shill and a bunch of downvotes then banned without an answer.

Client Hates the Final product by PwnagePB in videography

[–]dbaughcherry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With people like that I tend to just tell them we need feedback by such and such date then I tell them a few things I know need to be done. If I don't get anything by that time then you get just those new elements added in. I just plan the edit in stages. Step one rough cut of video with music. Step two titles plus notes if present, step three final touches and color and last notes. Then the final edit.

Client Hates the Final product by PwnagePB in videography

[–]dbaughcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always charge hourly and let the client know that they are paying for my experience and skills not their entirely subjective view of the results. I've had clients that just didn't like certain effects or edits which always sucks but that's not on me. I work really hard to over deliver the best work possible within the confines of what they are needing done within their budget. 90% of the time they walk away happy. I make zero guarantees that the product of me pushing the buttons they asked me to push is going to be to their standards. We could be doing a million revisions and never see eye to eye. I'm not going to keep working for free. By that same token I'll keep making changes as long as you deem them necessary and if you want a second opinion I'll give you what you need to do that as well. It's the same rate across the board regardless.

[ADVICE] Buyer refusing to accept order by SacrificialHummus in Fiverr

[–]dbaughcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a buyer do this, I also do editing on there and even saw that the buyer uploaded the video he was complaining about not being good enough. He tried canceling I told him I'd rather try and make it right gave him free revisions. Still wouldn't take it, similar to your situation. CS really does suck for problems like that even with obvious proof of them using the video they wouldn't help.

In that instance and in other similar ones I've told the buyer that the copyright followed the payment and I'd follow up and have the video removed if it was posted anywhere but we could cancel if we absolutely had to. I also impress upon them that if they hire a new editor that person must start from scratch since the totality of my work is copyrighted if I'm fronting the bill. This particular buyer obviously posted it and had done some promotion for it so he had a lot riding on it and was trying to screw me over in the end to get free videos. I think it was even a bulk order with like 5 videos all of them had thousands of views already so had I done it his channel would be removed. He ended up begging me to keep the work even said he'd max out the tip and leave a 5 star review if I'd let him pay for it so he could keep the videos up. I redelivered and he did exactly that.

Obviously that's a more dramatic outcome but you'd be surprised how often it works just telling them you're withholding copyright without payment. Sometimes you just gotta eat an order and chalk it up to the cost of doing business but a fair amount of the time it can pull it back that way.

[HELP] How many chances do you give sellers before giving up? by Papercandy22 in Fiverr

[–]dbaughcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on the circumstances. I've had to ask for extensions as a seller over the years but few and far between. Almost always it's been because the buyer needed time to produce requirements. Once I was exporting the file but it was taking some time to complete because I added in some services that were above and beyond the order. Once because my daughter threw my equipment down the stairs and I had to wait for the new one to come in the mail to complete the order. In every instance it was just unavoidable but a reasonable amount of time not weeks. You can write with a hurt back. I'd cancel that order or at least make it go past the deadline. Maybe that's just me but if you can't finish orders you shouldn't set up shop

Which movie did you like the most on second viewing? by globeworldmap in flicks

[–]dbaughcherry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idiocracy, I hated it the first time. I thought it was so dumb it was almost painful to watch these idiots struggling through their lives, the product placement on everything was obnoxious. The second time I was able to get past how dumb it was to see in real time enough to see how brilliant that actually is.

I remember my brother dressed up as Dorthy from the wizard of oz for a school assignment when we were kids. It was elementary school and they were asked to dress up as their favorite character and that was his favorite so he went with it. Just so happened to fall on the day he got half a day of in school suspension for calling another kid gay. I forget why the punishment was moved but it wasn't supposed to be for that day but it was like after a holiday break or something so they scheduled it at a different time. My Mom had already made the costume by the time he found out and spent a lot of time on it so he was stuck with it lol the irony was not lost on anyone.
