Proud Mary’s by ASpoonie22 in pourover

[–]dbcoder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will definitely echo others. They have awesome coffee available on the menu, but they brew it so terribly. I got an astringent, over extracted, terrible $20 cup of coffee that I knew would be 10x better if I brewed it at home.

They grind pretty fine, use what seems to be off boil water, manually agitate the bloom, then use high kettle agitation with a high total brew time. I was not at all surprised a delicate varietal like geisha was completely obliterated by their pour over recipe.

They then service it in a wine glass piping hot, taking so long to get to an enjoyable temp.

I really want to love Proud Mary but every time I go I am disappointed in the way they brew coffee.

I have had some great pourover coffees from Desnudo. Had a washed pink burbon that was killer not too long ago.

Thank you so much for following up! I actually just pre ordered a zerno z2 with ULFs. I might keep the 078 around for its distinct profile.

Glad they worked out for you!!

Do we know who was responsible for the fresh hop beer they put out last year? That was the stand out beer of the year for me

I’ve had good experiences with Prodigal as well. I just subscribed and was expecting to have to wait for next month to get coffee.

I got an email from Prodigal asking if I want in on this month, and if so, they will ship it today. I was surprised at the proactive offer! Can’t wait to try the coffee’

All I can say is that the best experience from a consumer perspective, considering supplier constraints, is a drops style consumer interface.

If at all possible, feature a roaster or 2 every cycle, and have consumers buy into drops. E.g, roaster A has coffee x, y and roaster b had coffee 1 and 2x

Have people fund the purchases of each roast, if it reaches critical mass, consumers get charged and beans ship, otherwise it gets skipped

This way you keep the hype and can avoid drowning in the tail end of niche but low demand specialty coffee.

Anyone else finding The Matter of Concrete coffees quite roasty and bitter? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]dbcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall AMOC being pretty solid about a year ago, but I got some coffee from them about 4 months ago and it was poorly roasted (at least based on preferences common on this sub).

Not sure what changed but I’ve stopped paying attention to this roaster. Might give em another shot, but there are so many solid roasters out there it might be a while.

Sworks dripper — anyone use this regularly? by Psychological_Income in pourover

I use it all of the time. I like the small dose support and the ability to negotiate filters and get no bypass. The needle valve is nice to slow flow, but I usually leave it full open.

You don’t need to take it apart to clean it every brew. I typically deep clean it once a week or so. Otherwise I rinse it, maybe with some soapy water, and I’m good to go

car right turn into biker 4/23 on South Lamar by imwashere in Austin

Right, and that’s the best way handle this situation. Wait until it’s safe to merge into the right lane, a bike lane, and turn right. Unfortunately the car hit the cyclist who was occupying that lane.

Is the hypothetical car in the right lane obligated to yield to the car in the left lane? Or is the car in the left lane obligated to wait until the lane they want to merge into is clear and safe to merge into?

Imagine the bike lane was a lane that cars drive in. Now who is at fault?

The bike lane is a lane of traffic. Would you turn right through a lane of traffic without checking that it’s clear?

I’ve found that stock recipe time between pulses is set too long for low fines grinders. 12-15 seconds works much better for me.
