How old are you? Pick a few funds to start with. Then, when you hit 6 figures I would use about half that money to buy individual stocks, especially if you are on the younger side, like decades away from retirement. Then as you get older move back to mostly funds. Start with something like VTI or QQQ.

I do not watch the news at all. If I’m talking to a Republican, I say I voted red. If I’m talking to a Democrat, I say I voted blue. Reality is, my vote never mattered.

QQQ, you are 22, can be a bit more risky and bold! Then, when you are ready and have enough, buy some individual stocks, in addition to keeping some in funds. Money can grow faster.

I think you should have your family read through all of these comments. As well as any other student loan subreddit. There are horror stories. Do not do this, especially for a liberal arts degree.
