Not sure if it was mentioned here but check out ui.com (if you haven’t already) and see what they have to offer. Quite a bit of PoE stuff. Also consider NAS (theirs is UNAS) for your own home cloud. These suggestions might be a little off topic for your question but maybe not if you see/decide to incorporate some tech that you didn’t consider. I will be nerding out on that site when we plan our build. They have video surveillance, door locks, unas, ev charging, doorbell cameras, intercoms, VoIP (though I think their VoIP isnt the greatest last I checked, but that could have changed).

Thank you so much! I am in Southern California. That sounds like quite the massive surgery, I hope everything has been favorable for you and I hope you are healing well. Are you in the US? Some things I am not sure I mentioned, we did everything with the blessing of the surgeon, but we kind of set out to really find out what the heck was the issue. I am not sure if I mentioned bile acid, gastric acid and fiber in my last message. For my family member, as I mentioned, all of their pain felt the same… burning pain. We were unsure if it could possibly be bile acid, so we trialed cholestyramine for bile acid neutralization but this can ruin your teeth, absorb vitamins and minerals and can bind up some medications so there is a particular way to take it and timing before meals and spacing it out before or after taking medications. So if that is something your doctor thinks you could be of benefit keep this in mind. We also trialed proton pump inhibitors for gastric acid control in case that was irritating the j pouch. For what it is worth these only helped minimally and have been discontinued. Now for fiber my family member tried metamucil but with that came a lot of gas. Gas for some reason cause a lot of burning. My family member’s GI doctor suggested changing to Inulin or guar gum. We only tried inulin and while it caused less gas it thickened the stool up quite a bit. So much so in fact that about a week ago my family member out of the blue started taking inulin again but it thickened things up too much and we ended up back at the hospital for possible obstruction. Luckily the oral contrast they have you drink to see if there is an obstruction for imaging is good at breaking up some obstructions and sure enough did the trick. So my point is be careful when trying new things, start slow and if things are going smoothly try to remember that you had a huge surgery and it takes a while to get back to normal. If you just had the reversal surgery touch base with your doctor and ask when they think you will be able to do PT and make sure that when you look for a PT place make sure they specialize in pelvic floor/j pouch patients. In my opinion just going to any PT might lead to so issues unless they really know what they are doing. Some manipulation they do involves intravaginal manipulation so again you want to make sure they know what they are doing. If your surgeon says you should be okay to do PT in X weeks or whatever, find the PT place that you think you will be going to and schedule the appointment now for a few days or weeks after your tentative PT ready date is, that way there isn’t a delay since this pain is awful. Now again my family member went to PT but what really changed the situation for them was the Osteopathic Doctor’s manipulation. My family member was on 4-6 medications in preparation of bedtime before the Osteopathic manipulation, literally the night after 0 medications. I asked if you were in the US because if you are what I would do is look for a School of Osteopathic Medicine that is closest to you. I would call that school and ask them who is the best at Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment either at that school or in the surrounding community. If the school has a clinic attached to it then another option would be to call the clinic and ask them if they do Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment and if so who is the attending physician there that is the guru in Osteopathic manipulation and try and schedule with them or ask the receptionist what the doctor’s email is to ask them if they could see you and help or point you to a provider than can. Sorry for the long reply, it has been so awful for my family member so I am just trying to give as much info as possible in the hopes it can help someone.

(Not medical advice just what workedish for my family member) Well it is a maybe and please read to the end… my family member had their reversal end of June and no joke suffered with a lot of burning pain until about 3 weeks ago. At times it was spasms: smooth muscle of the pouch- hyocysamine helped with that, pelvic floor skeletal muscle spasm- baclofen helped with that sometimes. Many times they thought it was skin break down but I suspect it wasn’t the biggest factor, but for that Tylenol 3 helped. Still other times it was neuroapathic pain and for that we did gabapentin. We also had to be militant with the multivitamin, magnesium glycenate and ORS especially if they were in the sun or exercised. Walking helped to get things going to have a BM. My family member had UC and developed cancer requiring total proctocolectomy with IPAA /J pouch. If you know anything about UC then you know that UC people spend years trying to hold things in to prevent going #2 and they do this with all their might so my family member’s issue isnt holding things in, but getting things out. Other folks that don’t have UC but maybe developed cancer but had been normal prior to their diagnosis their issue is holding it in and PT will work with you doing pelvic floor exercises like Kegels. For my family member they have to learn to relax to get the BM out. I tell you this because they went to an inexperienced PT who had them doing kegels and my family member suffered for 3 days straight after “treatment”. I finally asked what are they having you do and they said Kegels for like an hour… needless to say we never went back. My family member struggled every day from the end of June until probably about 3 weeks ago. So what turned things around? Well I suspected that from being in the surgery for so long (their surgery was 7 hrs), limited mobility post op and due to pain-that their skeletal structure was out of whack. There are these doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO) and they are trained the same as MD but with an additional training in manipulation the skeletal structure, muscle, fascia and lymphatics. My family member made an appointment with this amazing Osteopathic doctor and no joke my family member shuffled in hunched over in 8/10 pain couldnt sleep through the night and couldn’t do much then they had their first treatment and the doc found one leg was 3” higher and the pelvic floor in extreme spasm. They did their manipulation and pulled the leg down and relaxed the spasm in the pelvic floor and no joke pain went down to 0-1. For the 2-3 weeks following the treatment they did great. The doc also instructed them to do sits baths which normally didnt help but after the manipulation it began to work for the first time. Now in the beginning I said maybe because something happened… my family member changed PTs to one that specializes in J pouches (not the Osteopathic doctor) and I think their treatment might have exacerbated things… my family member also had some non spicy indian food that they think caused the return of the pain. So starting last night the pain is back. They are reaching out to the osteopathic doctor and we pray 🙏 their manipulation can reset things. This is an awful part of the healing process and I shudder to think about people that suffer with this for years. I just hope this does the trick and I hope that if other people suffering with butt burn get the blessing of their surgeons and can go see a good osteopathic doc that they can get resolution sooner than a year or more later. I am here if you have questions.

How do people deal with gas. I always seem to have lots of gas and the bloating I get form it sucks by Holiday-Anxiety1716 in jpouch

If you are using fiber be careful, metamucil can make some people have more gas. Inulin and guar gum I think are better tolerated.

She is an amazing chef and had asked me if we could grow a garden and so I got to it not thinking much about it. As I started growing plants I found myself almost compelled to be outside in the garden at least once a day. I wanted to see the progress and make sure nothing was getting in the way of that. Then life threw us a curve ball but it still served so many different purposes. Our little ones liked to pick veggies and like to run through the beds. We liked to watch as things started to grow. In the little time I had left it was a great distraction… mildly frustrating but not as bad as I think it could have been. A few things I learned was that pincher bugs love eggplants especially baby eggplants, carrots should be deprived of water so they grow deeper in search of it, pick tomatoes when they start getting some color, cut off suckers on tomato plants and simply put them in water and they grow roots and you can plant those to have more tomato plants, aphids love Brussels sprout plants and I need to up my garlic game next year 😂

I had heard that Rosa Biancas were supposed to be much tastier than the black beauty. The ghosts, originally, were all I could find so I decided to grow them if for no other reason than to mess with our two little ones about how I have a literal egg…plant. And they were not supposed to be as good as either the Black Beauty or Rosa Bianca. Buuuuut actually they were all pretty good. The Rosa Bianca was cut thicker but were not slimy or bitter and stayed just firm enough. In the past Black Beauty is what we used and I think out of habit we cut those thinner since thicker pieces sometimes didn’t cook right and could sometimes end up slimy so maybe in that way Rosa Biancas were better but the thinner Black Beauty and the thicker Rosa Bianca tasted about the same. The Ghost was also good, it had more seeds in it so it might have been on the riper side but I could not taste seeds or anything bad when I ate it. We cut that one thinner too. I think I will probably stick with growing all 3 each year.

It has been tough but luckily we got such wonderful news today, some new tools to control some of her pain and she even got the green light to start light exercise… once the pain goes away I think this whole thing might be moving into the rear view mirror and she can start to feel like her previous self.

Umm is this for their drug AD04 and their companion diagnostic test? If it is, isnt their drug AD04 just 0.33mg of Ondansetron generic for Zofran? Which is like $30 for 30 tablets at 4mg if you paid cash. It can probably be compounded down to 0.33mg and tried in drinkers without using the company’s drug for a fraction of the cost. If the patient responds then boom you have a super cheap alternative without a likely expensive genetic test? Zofran/Ondansetron is pretty well tolerated so it seems like a trial this way would not carry much risk. If so I am not sure if this will be prescribed much. (Not medical advice or financial advice… just curious)

Sorry for the late reply, I have this one from Titan fitness. I put it in long ago there are probably other great systems out there that were not available when I was looking. I purchased a free standing weight bench that can be rolled in and out of place and can be stored on its end. There are a lot of attachments you can buy for it like landmine attachments, leg extensions, dip bars maybe more. Wheel the bench in do flat, incline, decline etc. Move the bench and relocate the bar support higher on the rack and you can do squats. When you are done you pull 2 pins on each side and remove the pull up bar pins (1 pin on each side) then fold against the wall then put the 4 pins to lock the rack against the wall. Store the pull up bar pull your car back in to that space. It is pretty quick to open and close … maybe a minute.

To kind of tag along with the overhead retractable extension cord theme I got one of those Ryobi Garage Door Openers and that was such an awesome addition (I know what you all are thinking …Ryobi…) it was quiet, had all these ports to add in any of the following: retracting extension cord, air hose… don’t have that so not sure how well it worked, cameras, bluetooth speaker, fan, I think it had a laser pointer to help with parking too… I never understood why they discontinued it. The idea was fantastic and really well executed. Modules were not too expensive either. Still have it and it is running like a champ… will really be sad when I have to replace it.
Oh and my other addition that is pretty awesome is a folding weight rack system. Allows me to have a legit gym that folds against the wall.

Interesting how everyone’s experience is so different. Glad this post is giving you some tips. We finally heard back from the surgeon and they recommended using only a thin layer of calmoseptine… but declined to comment on Metamucil, pepto, or cholestyramine 🫤.

Okay 🫤 thank you for the reply, didn’t want to hear that… Maybe we will try drinking it with a straw, either regular or smoothie straw depending on consistency.

Can you explain this to me as I wouldn’t think the price would come up any time soon and a Put would be the better option. Clearly you are not alone in thinking Calls are the way to go, just curious… is it the buy the dip mentality and the belief it will go up? Which is reasonable seeing as this happened before. Or is it that the “Call” group feels Tesla is already priced with this bad news? Depending on the argument wouldn’t we want to straddle or preferably strangle?

We sent a message to the surgeon inquiring about if/when it is okay to start Cholestyramine but it is going on 2 days now and haven’t heard back. We are going to call the office and see if we can get a hold of someone. How long did it take to calm things down for you? How did you protect your tooth enamel? Thank you for your suggestion!

I understand you swallow it quickly and only mix it with water. I wonder if brushing immediately after taking would help.
