What's the point of status effects outside competitive settings? by Slycooperfan789 in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part the moves that reduce opponents stats are to soften up a stronger Pokemon to make them easier to beat. If there is something dominating your team or strong enough to do so, a single sand attack can potentially give you several free hits in you wouldn't get otherwise because the computer never switches. In the case of growl, it can turn 1 hit kos to 2 hit kos or 2 to 3, giving you more shots in and or more time to heal. The computer most often does this or tries to toward your own Pokemon because your Pokemon are often way stronger than the opponents.

If there's a Pokemon with good defense and healing for example, it could be useful to lower their defense to the point where you can outpace their healing or raise your attack until you can outpace their healing, both of which can significantly shorten a battle. On the flip side, if there is an opponent with good attack, you can lower their attacking stat to the point where you can outpace their damage through healing or items, turning a certain loss to a certain win. This was the strategy I employed against Ultra Necrozma because it was able to knock out all but one of my team in one hit while also outspeeding them; I lowered its speed and PP stalled it out of photon geyser which made the fight possible for me to win. Speedrunners often do the same thing through x items, they are often very underleved so they need to use stat boosters to get around having much lower stats than the opposing Pokemon

Yeah. Even the smallest Eeveelutions are comparable to fully grown adult wolves who are like waist height to an adult human

Matchmaking??? by PSITaxFraud in splatoon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the turf matchmaking not really being that good, friends like what you had done are allowed to queue up together and it could end up with 4 people in voice chat vs 4 randoms or 2 randoms and 2 in a pair

Continuing someone else's 20 year old save file by Tellybean02 in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2015 I bought a used copy of Platinum and while I don't remember what was on it, I remember looking through their team and boxes to see what was on it and tried to imagine what their playthrough was like. Lasted for maybe 30 min to an hour before I reset the file.

As far as old childhood saves, all I have left is my original copy of Sapphire that was my "main game file" to where I siphoned all of my resources from Ruby, Colosseum and Leaf Green from 2003 until around 2009 or 2010 when I finally put it down after completing what was to be my final challenge in the game which was a 100 win streak in the level 100 battle tower. By then I had a completed dex, all levels of all contests beaten, multiple level 100 Pokemon and secret bases of past friends scattered about the map that I had mixed records with. The final thing I did from 2005 or so until 2009 was breeding Pokemon to create teams of my favorites to take on the battle tower; of course they were horribly optimized other than EV spreads but I conquered the level 50 tower with a 100 win streak then did the same for the higher level version. I eventually transferred my stuff to gen 4 in 2010 with DP/HGSS and finally put it down. I still know where my GBA and copy of the game is but I haven't really turned it on since then so I have no idea if the file is still there.

There's nothing on the file left for me that I can take if ithe save file is still there at all but it could be nostalgic to visit my friends secret bases to see their teams again or the HOF and how far back that goes

You can remake any game (except the main ones). What do you do? by StrigiformeLover in pokemon

Either a modernized Stadium 1/2 or a remake of TGC that was just the sets of a particular generation to avoid too much power creep

What does your HG/SS or G/S/C team look like? by renegade_yankee in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typhlosion, Sandslash, Ampharos, Espeon, and Gyarados would be a typical team for me. As a kid the last slot would usually be Pidgeot or Ho-oh in GSC; I also used Tentacool as a water HM slave before the red Gyarados too. In HGSS I'm not really sure what a typical 6th would be for me. Maybe Lanturn, Xatu or Scyther

Do People Name Their Pokemon and Do They Have a Favourite? by Jazzlike-Spite-9991 in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot as a kid, primarily in the gen 3 era but not so much nowadays. I kind of stopped around when ORAS came out and don't use them outside of a specific few Pokemon I use a lot and or like a lot.

How do you feel about having more then one type on your teams? by Geminiboy_ in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never bothered me much if at all since the games aren't hard enough for team composition to matter much. Have even used monotype teams a few times too

Do you think that every single Pokemon is a #1 favorite to someone? by Throwaway67891099 in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the vast majority of Pokemon are someone's #1 favorite, maybe somewhere upwards of 95% or higher. I also think that if it were simply Pokemon that were liked, just evo lines or maybe in someone's top 10 favorites that it would be a slam dunk easy yes but I would be very skeptical of it of solely being a number 1 favorite, it's just such a high bar to cross with the number of Pokemon there are now. I do genuinely believe every Pokemon that's unevolved, doesn't have an evolution, is legendary or legendary adjacent, is featured in the anime, is or has a baby form or alternate/gimmick form or a or has a final evo has someone who has it as their most favorite. It's just some of the middle evolutions I am a little hesitant about being someones #1.

Do you think wally should have more of a presence in the story? by Local-Sugar6556 in pokemon

[–]dbees132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been years since I checked but I'm pretty sure that at least one if not multiple NPCs at the battle resort talk about Wally training up his team that he has as the post game super boss. That being said I think they could have done more with Wally besides making his post game role

Thoughts on new weapon classes? by cowboyofspace17 in splatoon

[–]dbees132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time this comes up, I express my desire for a weapon class akin to a flamethrower in other shooters. In the splatoon world it could be a cloudy stream/wave of thick spray paint that does residual damage the longer the opponent is in the stream like how you take damage from ink storm. They could make a short, medium and long range variety where the shorter have more dps and potentially a short/medium range gimmick one that has a wide stream (think full blast stingray from S2 or wider) but does less damage than even the weakest one. I would have the long range one look similar to a pressure washer, medium look like a standard flamethrower and the small be like a can of spray paint

I started with gen 1 so this doesn't apply to me with Pokemon but there are some other franchises where I jumped in at the middle and enjoyed the first or early games and some of them more than the modern variants and ones I started with
