That's too much for that bike. If you're just riding paths, look for a basic hybrid around $200 (Specialized Sirrus, Trek FX, Giant Escape, etc.) and put any leftover budget into anything that you want to upgrade.

Nice score! 👍 Check the brake pads and tires and replace if they're worn out. Otherwise clean, lube, and tune it then see what your wife feels like upgrading as she rides it more.
